audio problems
i had just installed windows xp pro and now im having problems with audio card starting it is a C-media ac97. it did work b 4 i had upgraded operating sytem any ideas how to solve this? thanks

Latest C-Media drivers are on their forums (they have not yet posted them to the official website). What onboard model do you have -- just the AC97 codec (CMI9xxx) or the one with a DSP chip as well (CMI8xxx)? If the former, see www.cmedia.com :: View topic - New drivers for CMI9880, 9761, 9739, 9738. If the latter, see www.cmedia.com :: View topic - New 8738 drivers!. You may need to install drivers manually by selecting your sound card in device manager and clicking "Update Driver...", as the installer (Setup.exe) will not recognize all models. If you have a DSP chip, make sure you run C:\Windows\Mixer.exe to set up speaker config and surround options -- this will be critical for proper playback in hardware-accelerated/EAX-enabled games.

not sure on the onboard model the laptop is a n34as1. when i did windows update it had a hardware driver for it and i installed it now it says in device manager that it will start with a yellow ! by audio device

check the laptop manufacturer's website, they should have the exact driver you need in the support section (or at least the sound chip they used so you can find the appropriate driver)
