I not jumping ship from my prelude F that. the rest of those people can do what they want. I dont have problems so I not jumping, if any thing I taking there treasure that they left behind. And turning the ship around .

But any way I enjoy my card too much to go from it to another card again. Have no plans of going back to another oxygen HD based chipset card. Not after my barracuda and vista hassle and razer turtle slow driver support.

But If you really want a non creative card and you use vista then grab a Xonar because of that DS2XG thing whatever it called. But if you use XP then maybe a barracuda, bgear, or a second hand X-merdian if you can find one.

Dun think there is much choice for gaming cards. Pretty stuck for now. As for music the trend now is USB DAC.

I'd definitely get myself a Xonar.

I don't see the need to jump ship though, you paid good money for your card, it's not gonna be harming Creative in any way if you ditch it... just be sure not to buy their forthcoming X-Fi 2!

dumped my creative card a few weeks ago as it was causing vista lockups seems that creative are wayy behind on decent vista support and the modded drivers helped a lot of people

if they want to continue to be taken seriously as the top soundcard company they need to get on top of vista and offer drivers that actually work not just for the newer top of the range cards but some of the legacy cards as well

they have lost me as a buyer anyway

Best solution i've yet to come across that beats it out is still the uncontended Realtek ALC889a solution (onboard).... aside from spending a considerably larger dollar on an auzentech solution.

Every computer i build uses the realtek chipsets exclusively..... I just can't stand ADI or any other pos onboard chipset out there that doesn't have any form of decent audio or support from the real manufacturer.

Realtek constantly updating thier drivers and making improvements.... i got a responce back a little while ago about an implementation of DIGITIZED analog line in.... sweet... hopefully that pops up soon.

Yes, in terms of sound quality, connection flexibility and driver quality, Realtek is top. Realtek's Vista driver support is also great. It supports multiple inputs/outputs and DSP-Effects. Everything looks Microsoft-compliant.

I have an ALC889A OnBoard sound which does not have to hide from my Audigy 2 ZS.

However, I don't like the stereo to 5.1 upmixing modes and there's no option to set the LFE-crossover-frequency.
OpenAL support is also faulty.

You've had problems with OpenAL?

the ACL889a has several specific models .... ones that support no form of correct stereo to 5.1 mixing... the only ones that do it properly is the chips with DTS Connect or Dolby Digital Live! Only via a digital connection does it sound perfect (even with terrible audio sample).... However using the features in analog mode leaves alot to be desired.
