X-FI XtremeMusic with Audigy I/O Drive Bay
After much experimentation, I have finally done it - Audigy drive is working with my xfi card! Thanks to driverheaven I might add.
No one else on the web seems to have documented this, so here it is. Almost all the hard work has been done. There are hundreds of posts about connecting an Aud2 to an Aud1 io drive in this thread: http://www.hardwareheaven.com/audio-ge...ssignment.html So this thread is really just a summary to explain precisely what needs to be done. I was not bothered about full functionality - I only wanted certain functions. 1. Remote control - worked by simply creating the cable and plugging it in. 2. Mic2/line2, Aux2, Headphones - required a modification to the Audigy drive circuit board. I haven't tested anything else on the drive. To connect the audigy 1 drive bay to an xfi card, a custom cable is required. I used the excel file from this post: http://www.hardwareheaven.com/597669-post210.html But found Mic2/line2, Aux2, Headphones did not work at all. The reason for this is that the Audigy drive I2S connections operate at 48KHz and the x-fi expects 96KHz (at least thats what I gathered from lov3r's posts starting on this page: http://www.hardwareheaven.com/audio-ge...ignment-7.html So lov3r decided to modify the audigy drive. He kindly provided a detailed procedure on this page: http://www.hardwareheaven.com/534675-post111.html Get out your soldering iron and follow the procedure. I did not do this step: "replace both UDA1360TS with UDA1361TS". Not sure what difference it makes, but as I said it works fine for me. Having completed that (with a very poor quality soldering iron) I then discovered that it works, but 2 pins were incorrect on the cable. The mic2/line2 and aux2 were incorrect. So, if you have a look at the excel sheet these corrections should be made: -------------------------------------------------------- | XFI AD_Ext Pin Aud1 drive AUD_Ext pin | | 19 I2S in (aux2) <---> 31 | | 21 I2S in (mic2/line2)<---> 35 | ---------------------------------------------------------------- Some final notes that might help: 1. Because my soldering iron sucks, many of the pads on the Auddrive circuit board lifted. Fortunately all the connections are ok but I would warn you to BE CAREFUL! 2. I used an old IDE cable and simply jumpered the pins with the auddrive cable using bits of wire. If you do this, DO NOT USE an 80 pin IDE cable - many of the pins are connected inside the cable causing it not to work (learned the hard way). 3. I have a revised spreadsheet, so if someone wants to host it let me know. |
