Is X-Fi extreme music compatible with nVidia chipset?

My old Dimension 8300 died and I've just bought a Dell XPS 630i PC, running XP SP3 OS. The video card is nVidia GeForce 8800GT. Onboard sound is RealTek ALC888/S/T sound chip (RealTek HD codec). I have Altec Lansing ADA 995 5.1 speaker set.

I'm not entirely happy with the RealTek on board sound chip, its effects are rather limited and it does not work as nicely with my Roxio sound recording software as did the Dell OEM Audigy 2 on my old PC.

I am therefore thinking of getting a separate sound card, specifically thinking of X-Fi extreme music. The system requirements for the X-Fi extreme music specify:
Intel, AMD or 100% compatible motherboard chipset

The XPS 630i chipset has nVidia 650i SLI Northbrige, nVidia nForce 430i (MCP51) Southbridge. Would X-Fi extreme music work OK with that?

Any recommendations for alternatives to the X-Fi extreme music would be welcome. I don't play games. Mostly listening to classical music and recording/editing sound/video. I don't want anything that comes with an external box and all the internal front bays are in use.

I have one spare PCI slot, also available are PCIe x1, PCIe x8 and PCIe X16 slots

The extreme music would work with that motherboard.

Thanks for info and advice.

One more question: Does the X-Fi extreme music allow recording 'what you hear' (or equivalent) in the same way that the Audigy 2 does? I used that a lot...
