Microsoft UAA Windows XP SP2

Hello,

I have an HP DV6608ca, recently downgraded to Windows XP SP2. Here are the specs:

HP Pavilion dv6608ca Notebook PC- Product Specifications

I am trying to get my audio working. The HP chat support directed me to the following file to install the Microsoft UAA:

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp33501-34000/sp33867.exe

When I run the file, it says wait for the installation program to run me through setup but never loads. I then try to install the audio drivers ( ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp34001-34500/sp34200.exe) but get an error while the setup intializes. Setup cannot find the media.

I downloaded the two Realtek drivers as recommended in this forum:
http://www.hardwareheaven.com/audio-ge...er-32-bit.html

But I still haven't had any luck.

I am running Windows Update, but it seems that everything is a security patch. Does anyone know what I can do to get UAA installed and my sound card working?

Hi there and welcome to DriverHeaven!

Microsoft started to supply that driver for XP since SP1. But I think the SP3 has a newer driver so if you don't have SP3 installed you could test does it make any difference...

I installed SP3 and now the HD Audio is recognized in my device manager. When I reboot, Windows tries to go through the New Hardware installation process. I have tried the following drivers:

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp34001-34500/sp34200.exe - SP34200

Realtek - Realtek AC'97 (tried installing with the setup software and through Windows New Hardware [selecting the extracted directory])

Realtek's High Definition Audio codecs (the link doesn't seem to work anymore).

I recall seeing Realtek AC 97 in my device manager when I ran Windows Vista.

Under device manager I see:

Audio Device on High Definition Bus with a question mark.
Modem Device on a High Definition Bus with a question mark (I figure this is a separate problem)

Have you tested this driver from realtek?

Hey there,

I tried a fresh install of that driver and it didn't work. I did the same with the Realteck AC'97.

I think I might start screwing around with the WinXP Realtek AC'97 drivers. I see them in the list when going through the hardware installation.

Are there other drivers that I can toy around with?

Woo! I solved it.

I downloaded the Conexant drivers from HP (listed in the previous posts, v 34200). Going through the Found New Hardware Wizard, select "Install from list or specific location (advanced)," then select "Don't search, I will choose the driver to install," select "sound, video and game controller" from the hardware list, click the "have disk" button on the next menu and navigate to where sp34200.exe extracted (e.g., c:/swsetup/sp34200/) and choose the .inf. Follow the steps from there and it's time for rock and roll. In my case, Doyle Bramhall II.

Thanks for the help getting the UAA installed!
