Selmak is on a distinguished road

2 channels audio speakers with new dvds

hey,
i have an old compaq presario 2100, lately i found it difficult to play dvd-movies on it due to a problem in the audio configuration.
many new dvds comes with support mostly for 5.1 audio devices, because of that, when i play any of these movies in my computer i can't hear the low tones (mostly the speaking of the main characters).
its been some time that i look for a solution for that problem so i'll be able to watch these movies in my 2 chan computer.

is there a way to config my computer so i'll be able to watch dvds with 2 channels support instead of the default 5.1 (no possible configuration throughout the option menu of the dvd disk).

perheps even a video player with this kind of support?

any idea?

most DVDs will have a stereo submix, you just need to make sure your DVD player software is set to play that, rather than the surround mix

also check your windows control panel - make sure your speaker settings are set to "2.0"

dj, i've come across 2 dvd's recently that do not have a submix for anything below that of 5.1

which struck me as odd.

The Fifth element directors cut BR-DVD is one dvd that refused to play anything other then DD True HD which is unsupported format on the Z-5500's i've got not to meniton countless other system.

The only way i could get audio was to set everything up in analog mode only.

Even playing it in a set top box, i could not get the bugger to work in any other audio format. And on the ack of the box, is doesn't give any other option for any other audio format unless i was spanish or some other language lol.

probably due to the blu-ray format, won't use the compressed AC-3 of DVDs, as there's plenty of space for the uncompressed format. Using the analogue output of a decent soundcard will kill the DAC in your speaker set anyway.

Some disc players will have a down-mix option, but that's usually the domain of a digital receiver/amp (another possible option)
