x-fi, vista, cmss -wrong positioning
Hello,
I've had this prob for quite a while, it's annoying and i need help sorting it out. Running a x-fi music card, 6.0.1.1360 drivers. Vista 32bit. Cmss enabled within headphone and 2.1 mode and while testing the cmss positioning out in the x-fi control centre, (the helicopter sound) i get this pull yer hair out issue.. While the test is running, i'm aware that the sound that's playing is supposed to be in a perfect clockwise rotation, rather however, it cuts out the sound twice within the test and plays it at a completely wrong direction. For example, the sound begins at 12oclock, hits 3oclock, but while hitting 3oclock, the sound appears at 9oclock for a brief millisecond, then returns to continue playing clockwise, ie 4oclock .. 5 oclock and then it cuts out again, and plays a sound at a direction where its not supposed to be playing. etc.. Please play the sample ive recorded, note that the recorded sample has not picked up the direction of the sound, but the problem is distinguishable and apparent, by an increase in the volume. Headphone mode Cmss Helicopter test - http://www.djfluidzlive.com/cmss.MP3 2.1 mode 3d virtual Helicopter test - http://www.djfluidzlive.com/2.1 helicopter.MP3 At first glance i thought it may of been my speakers, but after trying headphones and recording two samples - using 'what you hear' i'm convinced it's not a speaker issue. Is my card on its way out? Btw, i've alchemy installed, latest version, but not enabled for the two games i've also had problems with.. Also I have used other drivers, including the Pax - which all show the same problem. But not so long ago, the problem never existed, unfortunately i just can't remember when it appeared, :S. Oh and, it's not just isolated and contained within the helicopter test.. While playing 2 of my games, F.e.a.r and G.r.i.d Race driver, while turning around the sound cuts out at certain directions, randomly, when turning the character / vehicle to either directions.. The panning seems isolated, as if its not blending from left to right, right to left.. as if theres a centre speaker missing. (BUT IT'S IN HEADPHONE MODE!!) Please, any suggestions!! Thanks in advance.

Ok, after removing every single driver file and registry entry within safe mode using driver sweeper and manually removing any leftovers (a couple) then finally using ccleaner to clean all the junk associated with creative.. i've now installed the latest driver from creatives website and to cover up all my misery i'm glad that that problem which nobody could find an answer for, (that includes Creative themselves - evident of an email reply), has now been fixed.. I'm still not sure what caused the odd positioning of sound, so I'm no wiser.

Good to know, thanks for sharing the solution. Someone else will probably benefit from it one day.

Just uninstalled all drivers to try your drivers Robert. Ive downloaded the Pax X-Fi Software Suite Vista Summer Editon 2008 + PAX XFI V6.00.. Installing the software suite first.. unticking the driver within there.. First part of the installation.. errors temp dir, error I-001.. I ignored and continued, because i could not find any information here about that issue which clearly states what to do in that situation.
Restarted the computer.. Next installed the v6.00 drivers.. Run setup.exe .. Errors again.. I-001 cannot continue.. Tried running both the software suite and the drivers again to see if they would repair.. same errors over and over.. I'm now stuck with the driver installed, and half of the suite.. No creative console launcher is installed.. All i receive is that I-001 error.. I looked this up on Google, to find an whole lot of questions with v4 in the title.. And solutions such as, update to the latest drivers. Well arn't these the latest drivers? lol.. Looks like I'll be returning to creatives own drivers again.. |

.there is a golden rule which goes for just about anything: if it works, don't change it... , alhough it would be nice to get the PAX drivers working .
