I Need Assistance Choosing a Set of Speakers

A friend of mine wants to treat himself to a new set of speakers for his birthday and he's asked me to help. I'm not an expert on the subject, so I've made a short list from what is available here in his price range and I hope you'll be able to help me. These are all surround systems as that's what he intends to get. I'm not sure if that's the best choice for his use pattern. He is not a gamer and doesn't watch films too much, he mostly listens to the music and he'd also use them for an occasional party - the set should be strong enough for about 40-50m^2 but there's no need for anything extreme. If you think he'd be better of with a different setup, do tell. If you think that surround is ok for those purposes, just help me choose one of the sets that I've found. Here's what I came up with:

1. GENIUS SW-HF5.1 5005W
I've heard some of the previous models and they seemed to offer a decent sound for the money and that's our main option for now.

2. CREATIVE Inspire T7900
The fact that it was included with the 2000 pounds worth Apollo system DH reviewed recommends this set which just barely squeezes itself into the budget (not a word about it's performance in the text, though).

3. Sony SRSD511
The only Sony model I found for the right price.

4. Pioneer S-SP50
The same as with Sony.

Oooh, and that sounds like it will be good.

I've been interested in that set based on the specs, but haven't had a chance to get a set to listen to yet, and don't really feel comfortable recommending speakers I haven't personally listened to.

Looking forward to that review.

Thanks for the tip, those do look impressive. Unfortunately, googling Serbian pages for them brought only 8 results, and none of the pages contained info on where they could be purchased. Also, I see that they retail for about $350, which is almost twice what he intends to pay at the most.

But perhaps more importantly, does that mean you'd recommend getting a good stereo or 2.1 system? If so, Logitech Z-2300 and Altec Lansing MX5021 seem like nice choices in his price range.
