Realtek HD Audio issues
I recently built a system on an Asus P5K Se mobo and had recurring issues with the onboard audio. After piecing together the hardware, I formatted my HDD and installed windows xp home. Loaded the drivers for my wireless network card and proceeded to update windowsxp till it was completely up to date. Afterwards i began installing and updating drivers for the individual components. The system worked fine but a single thing: the Realtek HD Audio.
Even tho the driver was installed and xp indicated it was working fine i got no sound and any applications i tried to run that utilize sound gave me an error that the audio driver was not installed or a bad driver. So i began surfing the tech forums looking for a solution and tried them all. In the end here is what fixed the issue. 1)I went to the realtek website and dl the latest HD Audio driver. 2)Removed hotfix K888111 3)disabled then uninstalled Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Def Audio 4)Rebooted then installed the Realtek HD Audio Driver then rebooted again -At this point the sound worked but occasionally i would get the bad driver error msg- 5)Set windows Audio service to automatic and rebooted again So far 3 days without any sound issues |

you must install xp.. followed EMEDIATELY by installing SP3 without updating anything else including windows..
i've ran into issues with XP in this manner. If i install xp and NOT install SP3 followed by the updated that come after sp3.... i've ran into issues.... generally one reason i dropped XP was due to the nature of most high def audio devices occasionally showing weird symptoms like this..... In vista it just works... either way, the sometimes working sometimes not working symptoms however are abnormal.... this would lead me to beleive that perhaps the audio device is a faulty chip possibly.

i'd get a real sound card! realtek is terrible unless you are using a digital receiver to run your audio

?
realtek is far from terrible.. but it doesn't shine all that well in xp... imo... creative is far from being a "real" sound card alternative. Auzentech however would be a decent enough alternative.
