Asus Xonar worth the upgrade?

Currently Im using the X-fi Xtrememusic, and looking to upgrade my soundcard. I have my eyes set on the Xonar DX (PCI-E) . Is it worth the upgrade from my current soundcard? I have read some reviews of the Xonar and most of them rated better than X-fi. Perhaps the only downside would be the lack of EAX5.0 but I believe their software emulation is pretty good right?

It probably isn't worth the upgrade. I would keep X-Fi if I were you. Software emulation isn't that good at all, and difference in audio quality between those two cards probably isn't noticeable.

If it was the D2/D2X then it be a diffent story, those two has LMA4562 opamps which would make it worth it. Those are some darn good opamps. But since your looking at the Dx ver then no it wouldnt be worth it.

Even with emulated EAX5 thru whatever they called thats in the drivers would get around that. But as I said only if you was looking at the D2/D2X vers and not the DX ver which doesnt have those opamps and use a cheaper opamp type.

Re: Asus Xonar worth the upgrade?

hey guys, I've extreme music too (box with kick ass drivers of Robert McClelland), sennheiser hd595 and logitech z5400 .. and Im thinking now about new sound card, with witch one I could feel the difference .. I don't care about games, mostly music and movies are important for me .. I thought about xfi titanium Fatal1ty Champion (or pro) Series.. it is a good idea? or is there maybe a better choise?

If you are willing to invest that much, I would go for something like Infrasonic Quartet or E-mu 1212m. But I'm pretty sure that you won't hear any difference on those speakers either way, the only difference will be those that software effects make.

Is the worst upgrade ever, I really hate creative, but this soundcard is just the same, the only really good thing, is the good looking cover, but is the ONLY thing,, Software emulation is really S&%$, and if you dont belive me (I have one) take a look on asus boards.-
