exclamation Cant get surround sound (rear speakers) to work

Hey,
I recently bought a new pc set up and some Logitech G51 speakers.
I cannot seem to get the rear speakers to work in surround sound. I have tried putting it on 4,6,8,5.1 and 7.1. But still no luck. The two speakers definitely work when i use the "matrix setting" (spilts the sound on 2 channel speaks to go into all 5+sub). My sound card supports up to 7.1 surround, i have updated all the drivers from manufacturers sites, dont know what else to do! Please help! When i go into the realtek audio console and do test surround, the center speaker, the sub, and the two front speakers all sound fine, but when the sound travels behind me i hear nothing!

System:
9400Q Cpu
Gigabyte EP45T-DS3R Motherboard (integrated soundcard)
GeForce 9800gt
Windows XP home
