How to I get rid of clipping in my MP3's

i've found MP3Gain... but i dont know if it will do what i want it to do. im not sure what that program does actually...

i want all my songs to have the same relative volume, in relation to one another, as they had before. so i want quiet songs to stay quiet and loud ones to stay loud. but ive been getting clipping on almost all my files, so i want to crank down the gain on all of them.

album mode seems to be right... but ive read some stuff that sugguests it doesnt work exactly as it should...

HERE you can find what Replay gain actually is and if it will do what you want to do

Yes, the album mode is what you're after. What player do you use? In foobar2000 there is a "apply replay gain and prevent clipping according to peak" playback mode. You can also easily scan your files and add replay gain info to them using foobar, so you don't need any external program.

what kind of player are you using? if it's Winamp, then then you need a compressor/expander (usually people just call them compressors) plugin for Winamp. here is a review on some compressor plugins for Winamp...

Re: How to I get rid of clipping in my MP3's

well, i HATE itunes with passion, but i have to use it to sync my ipod... i would like to use something else...

now i read somewhere that album mode, when applyed to my 6000 odd song library, would pretty much make them all the same volume... and i dont want to do through album by album... that would take forever

and from my experience, doesnt a compresser effectively "clip" the sound to get rid of volume spikes? i run a sound booth for several church/theatre/live band situations and i really dont like the compresser, it sounds like crap

well, actually, all that the compressor does is attenuate the peaks of the signal (nowerdays compressors have even more complexed options, like attack, release, etc.). but sometimes, if you add "hard core" compression to the signal, it does sound (as you put it) c*appy (if you have ever heard Benny Bennasi's Satisfaction, well that is how a "hard core" compressed track sounds like... it's not pretty... )

sorry, if you're using iTunes, i really have no idea how to make your albums "clip free"... i'm not an iPod user...
