exclamation Lost audio

I recently had to replace my hard drive
due to a crash. I have everything up and running except I have no audio and no sound device shows up when I check in control panel. The system is a Sony Pcv-Rs710gx with a p4sd-vl mother board. I have downloaded and updated all the drivers for this on the Sony website but still no audio device. There is a real tek driver that might be for audio that windows
won't allow me to install. I believe that it's the driver for the audio of this motherboard that I need. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Re: Lost audio

There is a couple things you can try. If this is XP, and if this is a Realtek HD Audio chip, then the first thing you should do is update the OS to Service Pack 3 as it includes one of the pieces you need, which is the Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) support package (known as KB888111). Once you do that you can simply install the driver on Sony's site. If I'm right the Sony supplied driver doesn't include the necessary piece that goes along with the HD driver, and they've only supplied the basics, so this will get you past that.

The other thing you can do is to grab the latest driver from Realtek's site directly from HERE. It includes both the driver and the HD update.

On another note, if this isn't an HD audio driver, but rather the older AC97 one, you can get that from Realteks site HERE.
