Prepatched Creative WDM 383 Installer

Hello everyone. After recently trying to walk someone through the process of installing the Creative WDM 383 drivers on their Audigy1, I decided life would be easier if I could just rebuild that installer to include a prepatched ctcomp file in data1.cab So I did it (I even used the same icon :P)

I've verified that this already works on systems with an Audigy1 installed, but I would love some feedback from SBLive users. If anyone could download this and give it a try, I would be most grateful. Thanks!

http://144.118.195.191:5120/383updated.exe (5.77MB)

EDIT: I made some changes to the file (using WinRAR now instead of WinZip) that took over 1MB off the file size. If you were downloading it and the file got corrupted, that's probably why. Just re-download and all should be well.

I can update the guide with a link to this if you want. Would you like me to do it?

I'd rather not until I'm sure it works on SBLive cards OK, something I haven't been able to test yet. Also, I wouldn't mind getting it onto a more reliable mirror rather than running off my personal computer's internet connection which is prone to going down at any time :P

If you want to mirror it somewhere and put it in the guide, be my guest, though.

I've also prepared a 383 driver set that supports Live! and Audigy1/2 series. It was tested, and judging by the file size, is more complete (I suppose more data files are included). Will upload them onto a shitty free account.

EDIT: ok, here it is:

install using ctzapxx.exe

This driver also fixes the dead Digital Output isse on SB Live! cards.

EDIT: check out other Creative downloads on my intentionally ugly website: http://snow.prohosting.com/eh4x0r/downloads.htm

All I did in my set was to repack the Creative download with a prepatched data1.cab as a self-extracting EXE. I don't see how it could be any more "complete"...

EDIT: I will re-do the file, though with the updated inf file to fix the SBLive digital output issue (that is the only changed file, right evil?). Again, my main reason for doing this was to have a self-extracting, self-installing prepatched update to simplify things. I help a lot of people on other boards do this update and the more simple I can make things, the better

Download my archive and compare the file count to your archive. Wait, I'll make it simpler, there's 184 files in my archive. I did not include any fix for the digital output issue, the updates Creative made fix it.
There's the difference - I didn't simply repackage the set. It contains files gathered from two or three sets, and does not include the InstallShield installer, ctzapxx is used instead.

EDIT: Your set will not be 100% compatible with the Live nor the Audigy, because it doesn't contain the datafiles that are needed for those cards. Some other files are missing too, like .cdf's

What I made wasn't intended to be a full installer, just an updater.

about... nothing :P they're meant as a single package that will work on SB Live, Audigy1/2 without any additional work/installing previous versions first and offer full functionality. they're based on unmodified files (gathered from a few different sets though). no lame hacks like the youpax or whatever that was called are included.

Why all these problems when Creative launched new drivers for the audigy 1 version 5.12.01.0383. So get them from the creative site.

SBLive ct4760, SBLive 5.1 SB0100 & crackling

hi

i tested different sblive's on 3dmark 2003 (sound test)

there is frame rate with 253 drivers:
no sound 32.1:
sound (registry turbo on): 28.2
sound (registry turbo off): 27.8
no crackling sound

there is frame rate with 283 drivers:
no sound 32.1:
sound (registry turbo on): 25.3
sound (registry turbo off): 22.1
sound is crackling

there is frame rate with 383 drivers:
no sound 32.1:
sound (registry turbo on): 26.8
sound (registry turbo off): 24.3
sound is crackling

my question:
is there anyone with SB0100 or ct4760 getting crackling sound with 283 and later drivers ?

test rig:
Athlon XP 1700@2600 (FSB 200*10.5)
Soltek 75DRV5-C (special dip settings for FSB 200)
SBlive ct4760 or SBlive 5.1 SB0100
HDD IBM DTLA 30 GB
Sapphire R9100 (275/275)
Windows XP Pro

OpenAL still not working right with sblive card using drivers later than the official.
Problems with games like Jedi Knight2, SOF2 when selecting EAX options. PLease take note that openal in jedi knight will be runnning in wrapper mode by the file openal32.dll in the game directory. You must delete the file to make the game running using the creative openal32.dll in the system32 directory.
Unreal games are not effected because the game has a built in openal wrapper by the file DefOpenal32.dll in the game directory.

However it turns out the old audigy drivers version .253 dated august works really well. The openal things still works because it is the same file as the .252 drivers.

Does anybody try using the rightmark 3d sound benchmark with different drivers and please compare it here ? I have a strange cpu spikes when running the bechmark. The graph looks funny though. How do you post pics here without uploading the image to a server or host it ?I don`t have any place to put link.

the link for the rightmark 3d sound benchmark can be downloaded here.
