Soundcard not detected after fresh Vista install

hey everyone, im new

computer specs:

Sony Vaio VGC-RC110G
Pentium D 3.0GHz
1GB DDR2 SDRAM
250GB HDD
Integrated SigmaTel High Definition Audio
ATI Radeon X300 128MB
Intel 945P Express Chipset
dual booting Windows Vista Home Premium and Mandriva One 2010

I recently installed a fresh copy of vista and now my soundcard isnt being detected. In the device manager its listed as "Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus" and all attempts at finding and installing the proper driver have failed. I've tried drivers from Realtek, Intel, Sony and Sigma Tel to no avail. I've been scouring forums and support documents for an answer but i've yet to find a solution. I've spent two days working on this and i've got nothing to show for it. When i boot into Mandriva the audio works just fine so i know the soundcard itself isn't faulty. So if anyone has a solution or can point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it.

Re: Soundcard not detected after fresh Vista install

First up, welcome to the forums!

Only thing I can suggest right now is to make sure that you have at least Vista SP1 installed (preferably SP2), and to give THIS driver a try. It's a redirect to a link on Dell's site, but the driver should work for you. If it does, go into Windows Update, and change the settings for it to include recommended updates. If there are updated Sigmatel drivers beyond what you just installed it'll show up in the list of updates.

Let us know if this works out for you. If it doesn't I'll look around for another driver for you to try out (since Intel uses this on a lot of their own boards you can try using their IDT driver).

BTW, you didn't mention what bit version of Vista you are using. Is it 32bit or 64bit?

Re: Soundcard not detected after fresh Vista install

Alright we're making progress! haha, the computer is now recognizing the soundcard under sound, video and game controllers however it still doesn't have the proper driver. I have the windows update downloading now so when that's all finished i'll post the results back here. I cannot thank you enough for helping me with this, its my moms computer and she mainly uses it for watching and recording television so sound is pretty important to her.

Re: Soundcard not detected after fresh Vista install

You can get another driver, a newer one, from HERE. Just download the one you need (disregard the other posting further down the page as it doesn't work). The files are in a cab compressed format, so you will need to use a program like 7-Zip or WinRAR to uncompress the cab file into a folder, and then using Device Manager you manually update the driver for the sound card by pointing it to the folder with the driver.
