Getting L and R sound through same speaker: Creative X-FI + T7900 Speaker Set

I am getting left and right sound coming through the same speaker and am looking for possible solutions.

Creative SB X-FI card;
Creative T7900 speaker set.
Vista 32 bit

Currently I have Front Left , Front Centre, Front Right and a Sub-Woofer attached. I have defined this as my set up in Vista :

Control Panel -> Sound -> Playback -> Creative Sound Card -> Configure Speakers

This is showing up as 5.1 (although strictly not true). Via Creative Diagnostics I have changed to Headphones, 2/2.1, 4/4.1 etc. without altering the basic problem that both Left and Right channels are being routed via the same speaker. I have also used Restore Defaults, turned off and on, disabled / re-enabled the card, etc.

I have checked connections are correct from X-FI to the speaker controller (subwoofer box) and properly connected from there to the actual speakers themselves.

Have tested that both L and R speakers actually work, by swapping jack plugs.

Any thoughts ?

Much appreciated - Tom

Hello Tom,

Are the wires plugged firmly into the relative jacks (the front speakers can display this behavior if the wire isn't plugged into the soundcard fully).

Is the same behavior noticed when using another set of speakers, such as headphones or monitor speakers?

Is there anything that you've done to possibly cause this (like install something) or is this a new setup?
