Realtek Audio Drivers

Can someone guide me in the right direction for Realtek audio drivers? I know about the version 2.40 which comes with an equalizer. Thing is, they sound terrible and the only way to get good sound is to adjust the equalizer, which I got a basic understanding of how to use.

I know of the modded Realtek X-Fi drivers but those are quite old so I'm wondering if there's newer ones available.

I'm just using them on a 7 year old 4.1 speaker setup. Motherboard is a Gigabyte EP35-DS3L which I believe uses the ALC888 chip.
