4.1 Speaker Question

I'm in the process of trying to choose new speakers, as my 2.1 are kinda wearing thin. I've decided to upgrade, and my intial choice was to go for one of the entry level 5.1 setups. I'm still not sure on this, as the only speakers that really showed up as worthwhile were the Altec Lansing 251. So I decided to stick with 4.1's for now. I was wondering how 4.1's were in the first place, as in sound positioning, and the overall idea. Right now I've got the Logitech Z-560's working against the Klipsch ProMedia 4.1. I have taken price into account, but at this point i'm really wondering how they sound. I usually listen to music (classical, some soundtracks, which include vocals, LOTR's soundtrack would be a good example) and I want to know how these speakers sound in this department. Also I watch DVD's on, so sound quality experience there would also be great Thanks for the input!

The Klipsch are the better speakers however the logitech system is cheaper although not quite as good sounding from what I hear.

In other words if you can afford the Klipsch then get the Klipsch system as it would be the better system for what you want .......Of course if you can hear both sets before buying them even better

Best Buy does carry both brands. A few weeks ago I seen the Klipsch 4.1's on sale at Circuit City for $187.00. However, since it appears you listen to mostly classical, and watch movies Klipsch would probably be your best bet.

I've been mulling it over for a while, and I'm kinda wondering if the Klipch or the Logitech will be a good choice at this moment. In the first place, i have to buy a new soundcard to support something over a 2.1 rig, and i'm defaulting to an Audigy 2. The lowest price I could find on these were 69.70. If were to buy the Klipsch, then that's about $240+. At this point i'm not ready to pay that. However I was looking at the Altec Lansing 251, and from the various reviews i've been reading, they're actually pretty good. Any thoughts? Thanks

I've only heard the 2.1 version of the speakers so I can't give you any advice about them. However, the 2.1's were pretty decent.

Actually, I have the Logitech Z-560's and they were the best sounding compared to all other companies speakers in the same price range for a 4 speaker set.

I agree. I went to Best Buy, and listened to quite a few, including the Altec Lansing, and the Cambridge Soundworks. I felt that the Lansing were kinda muddied, and the Cambridge very sharp, and kinda uneccessary. I was able to listen to the Z-560's, and they were fantastic. I played a lot of classical, and jazz, on them to see how well they could reproduce sound, and they did a good, job. I've decided to get them, though it's going to cost me more. I think that it's worth it, as they sounded better than anything i've ever heard before for that price.
