Default Post Recommended speakers

After a recent system upgrade I ran out of money and decided to keep my old speakers until a later date. I now feel I am missing out on some of the latest games which are using sound effects to great effect (MoH etc). I haven't really got the room for a 5 or 6 speaker set but a subwoofer and 2 desktop speakers would be ideal. Any ideas? If anyone can recommend a fairly inexpensive set of surround speakers I may change my mind and buy those.

Can you specify your budget in dollars rather than as "cheap" please. That would help. Then I could recommend something too.

Sorry, I'm not sure of the exchange rate, but around £100 sterling.

(that's about 152 dollars you're willing to spend)

For that much money, you can get the Logitech Z560 4.1 speakers. They are one of the nicest 4.1 speakers available and have by-far the best value. They cost about 140 USD (91 UK Pounds).

I second this..you can't beat them for the price and sound. The only thing that will touch them costs about $250 more.

Thanks for the tip, I really like the look of those. I'll shop around to see what's the best price I can get them for.

Default Post Better than that

I got to say those are nice speakers but for 40 or so more dollars you can buy a pair of Klipsch Pro Media 2.1 one of the best pair of speakers you can buy. $ 179+freeshipping from PCHertz.com. So before you buy those speakers I suggest that you look at these.

I think you're underestimating the Z560 speakers when you say that the Promedia 2.1s are better than the z560 4.1s. The logitechs are meant to compete with the Promedia 4.1 speakers and offer similar quality (they're obviously superior to the 2.1 promedias). It wouldn't make sense to spend money on 2.1 speakers that cost more and don't offer something substantially better. See for yourself:

the higher-end Z-560 is the equal of the ProMedia 4.1, and its retail price is a hundred bucks less
(if it makes you feel better, the z560 speakers are also THX certified like the Promedias)

(I'm sorry if it sounds like I'm starting an argument. I don't mean to. I'm just trying to help Kinetic make a wise decision)

You said that you don't have the room for a 5 or 6 speaker system ... But, I would still suggest that you take a look at these.

For $50 USD dollars they sound great!

but if you have the room for them... I would suggest these.

For $100 USD dollars they are really hard to beat.

Good Luck!

Just thought I'd let you know that I've decided on the Logitech speakers. The other speakers were all excellent in their own right. The sound from the Klipsch was superb but they were more expensive and the Altec Lansing were an absolute bargain, but overall I just preferred the looks of the Logitechs. Thanks again

Now crank those baby's up and feel the bass. I love to listen to the pod racing sequence on TPM dvd with the z560s. It'll literally blow your eardrums out.

Crank up Duel of the Fates (scene 39) on TPM, oh my God. With my Audigy doing the Dolby Decoding it is perfect, perfect, seriously sounds better than my local theather (THX certified, Dolby Digital 5.1).

Logitech z560 are the way to go, wish I had the money for Klipsch 5.1s though...

speakers:

1) Klipsch 5.1 for true theather experience (500 burst RMS watts, 250 RMS watts)
2) Logitech z560 only loses to klipsch with lack of center channel(400 RMS watts)
3) Klipsch 2.1 only 2.1 system that's any good.(200 burst RMS watts, 100 RMS watts)

I seriously don't understand why anyone would even consider purchasing the Klipsh 2.1's. For about the same price you can have 4.1's. To me it's a no brainer; even if you do not have a card that will support it.

Space constraints? If you hook up the z560's without use of the rear channels (not hooked in) it'll screw up the impedance and cause hiss, at least on my set it does. But then again, I use the rears all the time. Angled toward the ears from a slightly behind-like position sounds really good for Dolby Digital/DTS...mmm...Blade and Terminator 2 Ultimate Edition...mmm

I was thinking of using an adaptor actually. Hey Quadraphonics!
