Default Post Can't get EAX to work

Hi there!

First of all:
Sorry for my bad english.

Ok, now my problem:
I have windows 2000 prof sp2 installed with a creative soundblaster live! value (I know, not the newest card). I've installed the orginal shipped drivers, then the update from clabs-webpage. (I don't know the version, sorry, can't find any hint on clabs webpage)
In the sb-mixer: no presets for eax available
in the registry: No eax-entry found
in windows-system32 folder: eax.dll found, but it seems not to be registered
in the game: Switching to eax-mode, each game (like GP4, Aquanox and many more) returns back to game's main menu. Without enabling eax-mode.
On my second installation - windows me - eax works fine with the same drivers (the me-version of course).
Can anyone help me?
TIA.

I'm going to work here in a minute but something you said here caught my eye. You installed the original drivers from the CD in Win2k w/ SP2? Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't; that could card came out BEFORE Win2K. It sounds like maybe onlthe WDM drivers were you uninstallled. If so you must remove all drivers from your 2K install, and then download Win2K drivers from the Creative site. Hope this helps.

Yes, it's a value card.

Installing only the updated drivers from clabs won't help. The readme says:
"These drivers are updated drivers. Please install your drivers shipped with your card first and then install this upgrade."

I think I have to buy a new one.

First, you need to format your harddrive. The reason for this is that Creative drivers are very hard to fix once they have become messed up. I have never succeeded in "fixing" a bad install of Creative drivers. So, format your harddrive and get a fresh start. Make sure that you have your motherboard's LATEST BIOS.

Now, reinstall Windows 2000. (DO NOT INSTALL THE CREATIVE DRIVERS AT THIS TIME!!!)
Install all of your drivers, service packs, updates etc. If you use windows update, make sure not to install its Creative drivers.

Now, you have to download a HUMONGOUS file (almost 400mb). Make sure not to use a "pause" feature if you are using a download manager because this may corrupt the file (it has happened to me before).

ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/softpaq/sp2...00/SP20920.exe

Extract the file to a folder. Now, go to that folder and find "CTOem.cfg." DELETE IT. At this time, if you wish, you may burn the contents of this folder to a CD to get a brand new updated Audigy CD (this is not necessary, but you may want to do this just incase you have to reinstall Windows or something).

Now, boot into Safe Mode (you can do this by pressing F8 repeatedly before the Windows loading screen shows up). Right Click "My Computer." Go to "Properties."--> "Hardware"--> "Device Manager"--> "Sound, video and game controllers." See if you find anything that resembles anything to do with audio or your Soundblaster here. Uninstall it (and anything else having to do with audio).

Now, go to the folder (or CD) where you extracted the humongous file. Run the setup and follow the directions. Hopefully these will work for you. They worked for me .

One more thing:

I recommend that YOU DO NOT TAKE ANY SHORTCUTS because that may just put you back in the situation that you are currently in.
