Youtube AC3/ACC/5.1+ Dolby/DTS Digital
Long story short.
i've been having a BATTLE trying to get PowerDVD 7 to work with HD-DVD's... for lack of everything i've tried.. you CANNOT get powerDVD 7 to work wit windows 7 at all. The peice of shit software just won't work. This is the nest PowerDVD software you can get that will actually play hd-dvd content provided you install windows vista 64/32/xp which is royally screwed up. Ontop of that.. i really cannot comprehend WHY there isn't some HD-DVD codec floating around that works at all... so far out of all of them, i've only managed to get video to work and stereo output.... but it just screws up later anyways. ANYWHO.. onto the youtube thing.. After thinking... something i had thought about previously a number of times... i was wondering... why the hell youtube doesn't have 5.1 surround audio solution or better yet... an AC3 / Dolby Digital / DTS Digital option? Even more strange is how apparently youtube is one royally messed up and confusing bastard when it comes to audio in general. Now we all know the overall.. you always want to go for at least 480p to get good stereo seperation and cleaner audio... but there is this bizare twist.. that if some of the orginal material is 5.1, you have to select 240p to get it to work (kinda) Heres a PRIME example YouTube - AC3 Dolby digital 5.1ch Sound Test Might have to click the link and go to youtube to watch it and see er... listen for youself. Now right now.... with my system i'm running this on.. i've a fiber optic connection running from the computer into a split (which doesn't effect anything at all) which then drives a z-5500 unit and then the other runs the Yamaha 5.1 Dolby Digital/DTS compliant Amplifier hooked up to... well.. the necessary speakers and such for surround sound.... I figure it's a good setup to really check out the differences and knowing that both system decode sometimes "differently" depending on what it's being sent.. So considering that youtube is using 4k resolution .. or supporting it... i'm curious to know WHY the hell youtube hasn't implemented spdif/digital or 6 channel (5.1) surround sound support yet. Almost all the trailers are being watched on youtube now.... Quicktime videos have had it for ages.. DivX video formats using the .avi standard has made it possible too. Where the hell is out surround sound youtube

Re: Youtube AC3/ACC/5.1+ Dolby/DTS Digital
Good question. There are a ton of formats to choose from as well. Heck, they could implement it via Ogg Vorbis for free.

yeah...
IF google was to get real serious... they could start competeing directly with Netflix.. and royally kick their ass.. OR start working WITH netflix and bring it to the masses for tv shows and movies... Because really in terms of video quality it's there.. in terms of audio... it's lacking..
