Default Post Aureal drivers

What are the best Aureal Vortex drivers?

I personaly use Windows 2000 driver version 4.12.01.2559 . They have trouble in IL-2 Sturmovuk, which forces me to do without important audio que's.

I think they are from http://www.vortexofsound.com/

ive heard from a friend who is involved in making linux drivers for this card that the drivers you are using are one of the best for the card --- are you experiencing any other problems with different games etc ?

Haven't tried yet. I will when I get Halflife back, and will try with Mobil1 Rally Championship, Drakan and any others I find.

Running A3D, in Mobil1 Rally Championship, delivered the same effect as in IL-2 Sturmovik. Enginesound cuts out after about 7 minutes. One still gets shifts, co-driver voice and turbo-whistle. But after 1 more minute, these die also. Will run more tests.

Here is a list of things to do that help that I saved from another site. It refers to Windows XP, but I don't see why at least some of these tips wouldn't help with 2000. Specifically, the #2 tip did help me with the problem I was having with audio dropping out after a while. I think only #1 is specifically refering to XP only, the others should work for 2000 and maybe even NT.

Ok guys, I just got my rear channel working, I did a bunch of stuff, but I suspect it was just the last thing I did that fixed it.
1. I first told windows to update the driver through the control panel, and the driver version for Aureal Vortex 8830 now is 5.1.2601.0

2. I followed the instructions here (did that a few months ago and this stopped the audio dropping) http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/chris.day/vortexfix01.html

3. I downloaded the Vortex Control Panel XP from http://aureal.cjb.net (its on the download page) I also needed to get some ActiveX controls to get this to work (TABCTL32.ocx) which is part Microsoft's Visual Basic 6.0 SP5 support files

4. I downloaded Alex Mina's AC97 Mixer from http://www.upsystems.com.ua/support/alexmina/

5. Under the A3d Tab in the Vortex COntrol Panel XP I set it to quad speakers (this didnt do anything but I am not sure if it is needed) I believe it asked me to reboot here

6. Opened the AC97 Mixer (I was only able to open this directly with the exe not the link in the Vortex Control Panel XP)

7. Opened the Codec menu then click on Model Specific...

8. Changed the radio button to 2 channels -> 4 speakers (the rear channel immediately started playing the mp3 I had going)

9. Closed the mixer and was done

hope this helps
(i still have not tested IL-2 again)

Also, the main site from which the fix #2 refers to comes from at http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/chris.day/ is generally a good site with lots of help and info for getting Aureal cards to run well on 2000 and XP.
