ASUS Xonar D2 PCI
So, I just found my old ASUS Xonar D2 PCI audio card, and figure I may as well install it when I get the new gfx card.
Now, here come some questions: First of all -- what are these pins for? I don't believe they're front panel stuff, as they have no identifiers: Second -- when I had this card installed in my old rig, I would on occassion get an error saying "Card is not receiving enough power." It didn't come with any power-cables or the sort, and I had a 650W psu. Any ideas on either? Much appreciated.

Re: ASUS Xonar D2 PCI
No idea about the power situation but those pis are probably inputs, AUX, CD audio, and TAD...... Google a manual for that card, it will be in there.

Re: ASUS Xonar D2 PCI
Make sure you don't confuse the D2 (PCI) and the D2X (PCIe). The D2X has a floppy style molex 4 pin power connector:
If you are certain you have the PCI version, download the driver for the D2 and not the one of the D2X, even if the "X" sound so much more extreme. The connectors on top are two AUX-IN (one doubles as a MIDI-IN connector, with the included adapter plate and cable) and one is CD-IN.

Re: ASUS Xonar D2 PCI
I've had a few PCs in the past with connectors like those, and was going to identify them as CD-ins. Sihastru sounds well informed, though :P

Re: ASUS Xonar D2 PCI
I am 110% positive it's the PCI version. I'll be installing it over the weekend.

Re: ASUS Xonar D2 PCI
I have the Xonar DX and every time I install/upgrade it's drivers it will give me a warning about the external power plug even if it's plugged in. So maybe you only saw the warning since they might have the same driver for all their Xonar cards and couldn't be bothered to customize it for the different models.
Anyway tell us how it goes. I looked in a manual for the D2 and it says that the connector furthest to the right is the MIDI I/O connector, while the other two are analog inputs for CD and Aux sources, respectively. The MIDI I/O module installs in an expansion slot, and connects to the Xonar D2 with an included 4-pin cable.

Re: ASUS Xonar D2 PCI
Yeah, I would get that warning every time I would try and install the drivers -- however, it wouldn't let me proceed to download them without the extra power :/ dunno why.
Looks like I may have to wait until Monday to throw in the Xonar card -- we'll see.

Re: ASUS Xonar D2 PCI
It took me about four hours, but I spent tonight completely rewiring my PC (involving many zip ties and duck tape) and threw in the D2 as well. It took a bit of fiddling to get it to work properly, but it's fully up and running and blasting music through my 5.1 headset
sounds great.I'll snap some pics later when the 580 arrives and I throw that in, too.

Re: ASUS Xonar D2 PCI
Hey guys, I came here to find out what the chances are that kX drivers are compatible with ASUS XONAR D2X. What are your suggestions and thoughts.
I am new to kX project and new to this forum, so any input will be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Alex. |
