Suddenly EMU10K1 is my default device...

Heys guys!

Never heard about "EMU10K1 Audio Processor"... I have a Soundblaster Creative Audigy SB1394 EAX Advanced HD, model SB0090 since 2002.

And now i have only in my default devices ""EMU10K1 Audio Processor"" at Windows Sounds and Audio Devices. Can´t remember anymore what was my default device, but im sure its was not ""EMU10K1 Audio Processor"". What happened?

btw, with this "new" audio device i lost my 5.1 signal, i get only 2.1 signal now. What should i do?

For some reason Windows has deemed it fit to switch driver and EMU10k1 corresponds to the main chip on your soundcard. Likely it's a generic driver if it limits you to stereo output, though there's also speaker configuration options in Windows depending on which one you run. Get the latest driver for your card from Creative Labs or if you feel like trying new and have some time to spare on tinkering, give the kX Project driver a chance. If you have an Audigy SB0090 then you actually have a EMU10K2 main DSP chip, not a 10K1..... (part of your problem lies there) not sure how you got the default device and one that is incorrect. Sounds like you accepted an "upgrade" from Microsoft without realizing what it was (no offence, a lot of people do this)

You don't mention which version of Windows you have and driver suggestions would be version specific as this card is being fazed out as far as support goes with newer versions of windows. KX drivers though will support that card with them all from XP through Win7...... I know because I have two of the SB0090's

Sorry my mistake, its is indeed EMU10K2. It changed when i was handling with ethernet cable in network adapter. Then computer freezed up, and when i rebooted, emu10k2 became my default device. As you know, SB0090 has a firewire port and it stopped working... (Code 10) "Device could not start", yet i still have sound, 2.1 only.

I wonder i there is solution for this soundblaster or should i forget about it and buy the Creative Sound Blaster SE, Model: SB0570. ATM im using onboard C-MEDIA crap sound, and last time i put Sboo90 in a PCI slot it freezed up my PC... Maybe it was really damaged...

I also heard that there are IRQ conflicts between Soundblasters and other PCI devices. I Have 6 PCI slots, number six is damaged (I think, detects hardware but does not start devices), number 1 is to near of the VGA. So, i only have 4 pci slots available, and i need 2 of them to PCI network adapter and i am thinking buy a pci firewire device to handle with my camcorder.

What PCI slot should i choose for my soundblaster?

My Motherboard is an ASUS P4B266 and i still use Windows XP SP3.

UPDATE:

I tried KX Driver 3538m Current stable release and now i get 5.1 signal (with my CD drivers i got only 2.1 signal), nevertheless 1394 Net Adapter (firewire port) from SB0090 still does not start (CODE 10). Besides that, i had to put green cable in black port and black cable in green port to get front and rear right sound in TEST(i checked every single connection). Is that normal?

Should i try an updated driver from Kx Project?
In your opinion is to risky put that old (maybe damaged) SB in my system?
Does anyone have suggestions to put net adapter 1394 able to work?

PS: PCI slot number 2 did not recognize the SB0090, i had to put it in PCI slot number 3. I have my network adapter in PCI slot 5. Do you see any conflict here?

The KX drivers do swap the front and rear ports, so that is normal. There is a check mark on the main KX mixer page that can be un-checked to have them not be swapped.

About the firewire port, that driver is not part of the KX or Creative driver package, it's a Windows driver and comes with Windows...... Could be a bad port or a bad driver. I've never had an issue with mine, but I also have no Firewire gear so don't use it. Can't help you much with that.

Which PCI slot to use is not a standard, It varies somewhat with board manufacturers so I can't say if it's correct or not...... It's working so I would guess there's no major conflict.

If you wanted to use a newer version of KX don't use any newer than 3545 with XP, there are no additional benefits for XP with the newer ones and some people have found them to be not as solid as 3545. If 3538m is working for you now, you may just want to stay with those.

After all i do not need the 1394 Net adapter to manage my camcorder (In my opinion, it was a conflict between it and my real network adapter that caused a system crash and changed my default device to emu10k2, and that 1394 Net Adapter was done for good, i disabled it already), IEEE 1394 Bus Host Controller provided by the SB0090 do the real job!

I will stick with 3538 for now.
