How do people make Acapellas?

Just a quick question is there any software for this or does it have to be done professionally, or just recorded seperatly at the studio?

A capella means to sing without instruments. Is that what you mean? If so, just sing without instruments ...

...of course, if you don't want any background hiss, you'll definitely need a studio (software will just distort your voice)

They must have been recorded by the artist themself. I don't believe there is any easy and feasible way to remove background music from a soundtrack...

I never posted in this forum before- But I think I can answer this question. I was watching "tech-TV" one day about 6 months ago and I remember a guy on "The ScreenSavers" as a guest talking about a program that can remove voice, instruments, or any number of different things from a music file. He demonstrated it and it actually worked pretty well. It didn't totally take out the instruments, but it reduced them so much, you could barely hear them. You can also take out the voice and leave the instruments. I have no idea how it worked, but it was pretty good.

The only problem is I can't remeber what the name of the program is, or what the guy's name was. I have no use for something like that so I forgot. I will try to find it on their website- but their search engine leaves much to be desired. It's an "all or nothing" kind of deal. I'll look though- it might do what you need it to do.

I've managed to accomplish something similar to this before, but i don't recommend it. It completely distorted the voice and made it sound like it came out of a guy singing inside of a big mountain of socks. Just get any decent audio editing program, read the instructions, and play around and I'm sure you'll be able to do it too. The only "good" a capellas that I've ever heard were recorded separately by the artist in a studio.
