HELP!! Internal Laptop Speakers Only Work Through Skype

I have struggled with this problem for a while now. Everything was working fine until one day the sound just stopped working from the internal laptop speakers when I tried using Skype. When i used headphones, the sound was working but when I removed the head phones there was no sound from the internal speakers.

I use an HP 625 running on Windows 7 Ultimate, more details can be provided. The funny thing is, the internal speakers only work when Skype sounds are played, both skype sounds and music plays from the internal speakers for the a few seconds(duration of skype sound).

I have looked all over the net and found nothing. I've deleted and reinstalled sound drivers. Tried changing the sound settings in control panel. I've even formatted my computer and reinstalled Windows. With no change. Sound only works through headphones or external speakers. Internal speakers only come ON for a few seconds when a skype sound is playing.

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Yeah Brian I think it's your speaker settings in tools, options, audio settings in Skype.

- For everyone reading this we were able to solve the problem briefly by having him play around with the audio settings in Skype.

We've got the sound working now but it when he exits Skype completely there's no sound from his other applications and when he stays in Skype there is sound but his microphone doesn't work (he can't talk to people in a call).

Well, if you have formatted and reinstalled OS and the problem remains, either you make some "wrong" choices in settings or the speakers/onboard sound solution, has issues aka broken.

well...that's an interesting thought.... if it were broken, would the external speakers really work when skype sounds are ON?

Dude, nothing makes sense if you have reformated the machine and did a fresh installation as long as you did not make a selection in the drivers that I can't think of and the problem remains.

Have you tried new or older sound drivers?

Hmm, is the laptop connected to an external monitor while you are having this problem?

What I can think of is that for some reason Windows has as a default the audio out to the HDMI port, which then gets overruled by plugging in external speakers/headphones. As to why Skype works either way, perhaps it has as some programs do, as default for sound out the internal speakers.

I have tried un-installing and reinstalling new drivers that I've recently downloaded. The HDMI port has been disabled. And still the problem persists. This is some seriously buffling stuff.
