re: Sound Card Digital v Motherboard Digital out
First check if there might happen to be an optical or coaxial digital connection coming out of the motherboard in the back. Quite a few motherboards do have those, and when using a digital output the quality of the sound is much better than the analog ports integrated onto the motherboard. And in case you'd need a separate sound card the digital options would be the best thing to look for.

re: Sound Card Digital v Motherboard Digital out

http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=2839#ov Speakers link is http://hothardware.com/Reviews/Logitech-Z906-Speaker-System-Review/ Soundcard Link is http://www.amazon.com/Creative-SB0880-Express-Blaster-Titanium/dp/B001E25KDK/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1327922164&sr =1-1 Do you think that the Digital out on this Motherboard is Better or The Same .....as the Digital out on This Sound Card. I Still need someone to help me with the measurments of the Sound Card L x W x H It must be no longer than 115 mm Last edited by renocasino; Jan 30, 2012 at 11:25 AM. Reason: Fix Links |

Re: Sound Card Digital v Motherboard Digital out
yup.. when it comes to outputting true digital to anything .. it doesn't matter if it's sound card or onboard sound.. the result is identical unless either has a specific function/feature like Dolby Digital LIVE! or DTS CONNECT which makes a huge difference for those using fiber optic/toslink/coax digital on a 5.1 surround sound speaker setup.
