What do you think of the Audigy 2 ZS?

do you guys think it's gonna be a well worth purchase over the audigy 1?
audigy 1 boasted so many changes over the live, it wasnt even worth my 100 bucks. same crappy drivers. audigy 2 was better but not enough. this gonna be another live 4.1 to 5.1 sorta advancement basically?

I am wondering if it's still using EMU10k2 chip (is it any different compared to Audigy2).
If it has more DSP resources, then I might consider it worthy. If not, then Audigy and Audigy2 can use EAX4 too with proper drivers.

Well I ordered one to replace my Audigy1, but I'm not sure if it's going to be a huge improvement. Seems the driver hacks have given such a huge improvement that I doubt I will be able to hear the difference. Regardless, it's in route and I should have it in 1-2 days.

yea it should be a large diff over audigy 1, i found a good diff between audigy 1 and 2 but not live and audigy.

but when i had sb live value on my other comp, turned it on the first time ENOURMUS DIFF after a avance 97 sound card when the treble and bass wasnt even touched. live truely was a good card.

but i think to really benefit you need a damn 7.1 system, its really just not neccessary for that many speakers on a PC. its just way too many if you think about it.

It's about DACs and ADCs (converters), not about DSP chip.

The big difference is that the 108dB SNR is over all the channels on this card, rather than just on the front channel as was the case with the A2.

Hehe, that probably wasn't me... I haven't played Q3 or CS in many ages..

So far I've played some BF1942, Jedi Academy, and I'm beta-testing XMP for Unreal 2, and the sound so far has been fine. It sound is definitely cleaner and more detailed than the Audigy. I'm still using 5.1 surround, but maybe I'll just have to get stoopid and go 7.1 soon

XMP = eXpanded Multi-Player. Its pretty much team based mp with a mild class system. It has vehicles and will be a free download eventually. I'm thinking it will be out in about a month. Many people felt kinda stung (I did) by Unreal 2, so I guess this is their chance to redeem themselves. If you wann know more go here.

Splinter Cell and UT2K3 DO have nice sound

Never played Hitman though. :-/

I played UT2003, and it does have nice sound, but I prefer to turn EAX off simply becuase it works better without it. Hitman, on the other hand, has very nice sound and it runs smooth.

i find no diff when i turn EAX off, i run it at 1152x768 2x fsaa/16x aniso i still get 70 fps and peaks of 120.

i hope that eax 4.0 or something actually works so it utilizes less CPU yielding much higher framerates. the drivers did crap i noticed. but computers nowadays are so fast eax doesnt affect it too much i noticed. and I WANT DOWNLOADABLE EAX PRESETS GOD DAMN AND ALL IN ONE PACKAGED DRIVER DOWNLOADS

I do notice the difference with or without EAX, but it's probably because I have Radeon 8500 and you have 9700 Pro.

You should check out the Creative Audigy Newsgroup Big...you can find out a lot more what is going on. Besides the "word" is all the Audigy line up is "supposed" to support the new EAX 4 with a software update.

But I am pretty sure they won't be offering new apps from Audigy2 package (why wasting bandwith, yeah). I am glad that people who buy new cards (like you by the time of Audigy2 came out) are usually willing to upload the stuff to the net.

Since I don't have access to upload something that big even if I had the files to upload I wouldn't have a place too. Besides I've been trying to download it to upload as a Torrent so others can get it.

I will speak once I have the file, but from what I heard most apps don't work on Live! cards.
