Pissed Audigy1/CMSS problem. HELP!

How the heck do I make that stupid CMSS(I don't even know what CMSS means ) stay OFF?!? It makes everything sound like it's spinning around in a drum or something. I found the place to turn it off (Playcenter) and then everything sounds correct, but as soon as I reboot, it's back on. I need that garbage to STAY OFF. Anyone know the secret to keeping it set to OFF? I tried going through all the EAX options and turning those off, I tried....well I tried everything I could think of (short of hunting through registry) to make this idiotic-sound-warping CMSS junk stay OFF. I'm obviously missing the critical setting somewhere.

The PC having this problem is almost the same as the one in my sig, except it has a AMD 3000 Barton CPU, 1gig PC3200 RAM, an NF7-S M/B and the Audigy IS a Platinum version.

What's the trick?

Please don't tell me to install KX drivers, that's not an option for me.

are you using the audigy 2 drivers? it should simple be a checkmark
cmss- creative multi speaker surround.
i found it a huge help on audigy 1, its only good on 5.1 and up though. i dont think live/audigy drivers have the option, i know live did years ago like in 2000 when i first got the card.

No, actucally is IS the Audigy 1 drivers. It was an automatic update from Creative. That darn option really makes things sound wierd too. Kinda sounds like the sound is phasing. It's pretty annoying.

ahhh im forgetting, i dont remember a CMSS option on the audigy 1 surround mixer. try the audigy 2 drivers. that has the option to turn it on and off. it really messes up on 2.1 and 4.1 modes i noticed

The only place that I've seen the option is when you open "Creative's Playcenter" and extend the little 'keypad' thingy on the right while in "player view". The option can be turned on and off, but it will ALWAYS default to ON when the system is rebooted. That annoying little option needs to stay off, otherwise it makes things sound terrible.

Odd thing is, it doesn't do this on MY rig, just the one downstairs (much more powerful and feature laden system) that has a 4.1 speaker setup. It's an Audigy 1 Platinum running the automatically updated Audigy1 drivers through Creative's site on WinXP.

I have just resolved to running Playcenter and turning it off whenver I boot the system. There needs to be a way to pemanently disable that so-called feature.

Vially, you can send me that 9700 now j/k, the option IS there....on both mine and my bro's rig using Audigy1 and Audigy1 drivers.

Here's a pic of where it's located in Playcenter.

Yeah, I don't use Playcenter either, it's disassociated with everything, but that's where the option is accessed nevertheless.

About that 9700....

yea creative told me that CMSS wasnt popular and was causing a few issues. on the older drivers you could enable it and stuff on all modes and made a huge diff. they decided to take it out. use the audigy 2 drivers itll fix the CMSS problems
