Default Post Audio editing software

I would like to know what is everybodies favorite editing sotware. I haven't done to much editing on my home computer, mainly b/c the one I'm currently using SUCKS. In the studio I used Pro-Tools almost exclusively.

I've tried CoolEdit and Acoustica... I didn't like them. I've never heard of Pro Tools.
If you were talking about Midi software, the only one I've ever used is Vienna.

I prefer almost anything from Sonic Foundry, however Pro Tools is very nice but my experience with it is limited. Pro Tools is the shiznitz though of audio editing software; which means it's freaking expense too. You can download a free version that works on Win98/ME. I've never tried it on WinXP though. I think I might when I get home tonight.

Default Post Steinberg - Wavelab and Nuendo

I run a studio using 24 bit digital tape (Tascam DA78HR), mix down to dat, take that away and digital master using Steinberg's Wavelab. It's a straight audio editing app, not rilly geared towards a lot of multitracking or live recording but it's great for editing and mastering. Uses all the same plugins as Cubase and Nuendo. For multitrack work I rilly like Steinberg's Nuendo. It's basically a Pro-Tools killer without the hardware dependencies. It just needs enough juice in yer computer to accomplish what you ask of it. I'm not a Steinberg rep or anything, just rilly like their software, been using it for years and several releases on my record label.

Santa Cruz audio for games
had to drop the scsi drives cuz 120GB of new SCSI would bankrupt me.
And another machine to handle server duties, administrative crap etc.

Steinberg is really good as well. What do you think of Cakewalk?

I haven't had the chance to use either of these programs. Thanks for the input though; did you say "your" record label? I checked out the link, downloaded a few of the mp3's. Not to bad, more of a heavy metal fan than a punk fan, but a good heavy guitar riff is all I need!!!! Thanks wounded paw

Yep, my label. I'm the producer/engineer for everything on Wounded Paw Records. Also the bass player for Murdersquad. There's actually quite a variety of music styles on my site, check out all the different MP3s. It's all an interesting mixture of rilly old tube based and fat caps boutique gear (Sound Workshop console, Ampex tube mic pre's if that means anything to ya) and the latest digital recording stuff.

I went to school @ the recording workshop, ever heard of it. I haven't been in a studio for a while , hard to pay child support on an intern wage.
