New Audigy update version 441

O.K. This driver update does not update to the version 5.12.5.441, as it supposed to, even after patching with 'ctcomp'. But, if you unpack this into a seperate folder and get into 'CTZAPXX' folder and install from there. It seems to work or atleast the version number is shown as 5.12.5.441 in the device manager. As to the real differences in the sound well ! hardly any. May be someone in this forum might have some ideas.

I've installed the driver and then rightmark 3d sound. This software only detects up to eax3 so i think the driver doesn't update anything...

Hehe that is very true about having to unzip and update the drivers through ctz. to actually update. Thanks man!

O.K. I got this figured out

Download drivers. Unpack into a seperate folder, apply the 'ctcomp' patch and install. It will install the drivers, but the version may not show the correct one which is 5.12.5.441 dated 10/21/2003. To get this updated to this version, just install once again by clicking on the 'CTZAPXX' that's it, you got the right version. As for the sound quality, I feel after listening for several hours that there is definitely a difference a dynamic big sound very much like my Bose sound systems. You will notice it when you hear your favourite music or MP3. Good luck.

According to BoomAM in this thread here, & if you get these drivers from Creative then EAX 4 is supported on Audigy 1. I'll give it a shot in the morning.

@ purush:

Can I apply the 'ctcomp' patch and just install from "CTZAPXX" instead of installing twice??? Better quality eh......I'm all for that.

And one more thing, is the 'SBA2_EAX4DRV_031031' a standalone driver or do I need a previous version already installed?

I removed my previous drivers and software(modified audigy 2 zs package) for my audigy 1 oem, applied ctcomp patch and installed the new drivers. And presto.........the driver's version shows up as 441. Hope this helps.

ok how do you know you've got EAX 4?

ive got audigy 1, installed the audigy 2 zs drivers (original) with CTCOMP patch. Then downloaded the update (which is suppose to have support for EAX 4) and applied the ctcomp patch, installed it and updated drivers manually too (cuz it shows the wrong date for some reason)

but how will I know now if its use EAX 4?

Well now you go out and buy Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy. Reason being is that this is the only game, as yet, to support Eax4.0
If you already got it then run around some rooms firing guns and you should notice a whole world of difference compared to Eax3.0

I recently bought Audigy2 ZS. I've never used Creative sound card before so this is my first.
I installed the drivers and software on the CD that came with the product. I also downloaded EAX 4.0 driver update(SBA2_EAX4DRV_031031.exe)

My questions are

1. Do I just execute the downloaded update file on top of my current driver? Don't I have to remove previous one? The thing is I'm not sure what to do with this Creative software. The CD installed whole bunch of things on my computer. How do I install this new update?

2. Reading this thread, I encountered quite a few unfamiliar terms like 'CTCOMP', 'CTZAPXX', and few more. I suppose they are some sort of patchs or add-ons. Are these somethings I need to know to make use of driver updates in the future? Could any of you be a good sport and explain what these are about?

3. I heard some bad things about creative drivers/software. Some say they put much junk files on a machine when installing them and pollute the registry and are also hard to remove. With this card in my machine, is there something I should be cautious about in the future when I download and update Creative files?

BTW, I came from nForce1 sound and I am quite happier with this card. Better sound definately

Thanks guys.

1. Just install it, don't uninstall anything.
2. CTCOMP is a tool used for making new drivers compatible with old cards. CTZAPXX is Creative's driver (un)installer.
3. I don't know of any problems, because I haven't installed them for a long time, but IMHO they are bloated and way too oversized for features they offer.
