Sad Creative Applications not loading... Help please

Short version:
Installed latest ZS drivers on Audigy1. Didn't like, reverted and now none of the skinned Creative applications work.

Long version:
I recently installed the latest Creative Drivers for the Audigy 2 ZS which include EAX 4.0. I know I only have an Audigy 1, but I was impressed with the original ZS drivers and had those running quite happily. When I discovered that the latest drivers got rid of Stereo X2 upmix, I was not very impressed. Therefore, I tried to remove the drivers. No luck. So I removed everything, cleaned out the old files and reinstalled. This is where the problems began - none of the applications that require skins to load work at all. Not even the systray application. Therefore, I can now only listen to music in stereo. I've tried everything possible and still can't get it to work. It's very weird since I remove all Creative files everytime I try to reinstall (and even tried without doing that) and it still doesn't work. If anyone could help me it would be very much appreciated.

I have:
os[Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 1 (5.1 - 2600)]
cpu[1-AMD XP, 1560MHz, 256KB (0% Load), x86 Family 6 Model 6 Stepping 2]
memory[Usage: 317/512MB
graphics card[Geforce 3 Ti200
screen info[1024x768 32bit 72Hz]
monitor[Samsung SAMTRON 55E(Plus)]
sound[Creative Audigy Audio Processor (WDM)]
pointing device[Microsoft USB IntelliMouse Optical (IntelliPoint)]

Thanks in advance,

Thanks in advance,

Unfortunately I don't have a solution (although I hope by now you've found an answer), but I'm having the exact same problem with my Audigy 2zs.

I initially installed this card, and all 'basic' applications (that came on the initial disk). Everything worked/ran just fine, except the system would lock up whenever it started to actually play a sound. I uninstalled and reinstalled a couple of times, but after the first or second time, the systray application wouldn't even control the volume level, and most of the applications wouldn't run at all. I eventually found out that it was a BIOS issue with my Dell 8100 that contributed to the lockups, so I patched that and then tried to wipe and reinstall all the creative drivers and apps.

I still have no functionality on those apps.

I've uninstalled everything and run driver-cleaner 3, (rebooting a few times in the process) but upon fully installing everything again, there's still no getting them back.

Is there a more thorough way of roto-rootering my registry to clear out everything creative so that I can truely start from scratch?

Thanks for any help!

Layne

I can only think to try running a good registry cleaner like Macecraft Software's jv16powertools after uninstalling the Creative aps and driver, rebooting to Safe Mode, and running Driver Cleaner. In the jv16 program, the first screen in the Registry section contains a list of aps registered as installed on your computer. I usually check the box to remove CDDB and also any mention of ASIO drivers (though that only appeared once). Then I run the registry cleaner, delete the Creative folder, and reboot to normal mode where I run Driver Cleaner and jv16 again where it sometimes deletes more files. Then, once I boot up again, the system is clean of Creative software and will only have the Microsoft driver installed. I'm lucky with my new Live card that it is an M1SBO0224, and XP doesn't find a driver to install for that! But it doesn't matter, as the 402, 441, and 443 Creative Drivers are signed so they successfully overwrite the Microsoft drivers when they install the later versions.

Try reading some of my latest posts here (I think you can search for that?). I've been trying to help a fellow Creative sufferer with updating his software successfully and explain there what I did to get mine working great.
