SB Live 5.1 Digital SB0220

Hello,
I bought this sound card (SB Live! 5.1 Dell Digital SB0220) from a new parts distributor and when i tried to "upgrade" my drivers I found that it was not supported by Creative. I was informed that it was a Dell OEM sound card. Anyway, I thought I'd give the sound card drivers from kX Project a shot however I wanted to make sure this was my best option. Two concerns I have are

1) I have a 2.4 Pent IV w/ Hyperthreading and I noted "This version might be not 100% compatible with HT/SMP machines"

2) kX Project states that their drivers are compatable with SB0220 however I also see this disclaimer "The Dell OEM SB Live! (SB020x) is not yet supported" I know the numbers are somewhat different but I do have a Dell OEM SB Live!.

So does anyone see a problem with using these drivers or are there alternative drivers I should be looking at?

Hope I make sense and thank you in advance!
-William

Very simple: is your card SB022x or SB020x? Because, it's not the same.
If it's SB022x, then it will work; SB020x might work in the future (when guys from kX Project get test samples to experiment with).

probably, the only choice is to try to install the drivers -- if the installation is ok, you are lucky
if not -- (you will get a message "the driver cannot be installed" or "there is no information in the kx.inf file..." etc. etc.)

note that some of the Dell boards which have 'digital outputs' cannot function properly even with kX Drivers installed since the driver cannot switch between digital/analog modes due to lack of any documentation...

Yea, went ahead and tried (was a new install of the os [win xp home] too) and locked up the computer with a pulsing sound and a pop-up request for a joystick or something. Oh well, guess I'll have to try something else.

Thanks all!

Was there a pop-up for a card too or not?

Yes, first was the card then 2nd was a joystick and total computer lock-up with a pulsing sound that wouldn't stop until I unplugged my computer.

This is really strange...
To be sure, try looking for Dell drivers, they should work.

The "Dell" drivers from Creative are a no-go, says I don't have a SB card. Weird, because the disk I got with the card is from Creative. It's dated 2003 so at least they are not too bad. Oh well better than nothing

Thats really odd because i got the same sblive oem that you have. I installed the creative drivers and have had no problems. Dont try to install the dell drivers. just select another sblive when downloading drivers so you get the regular driver package.
