Just kind of curious, seems a lot of you are using Creative cards. I was never really too happy with Creative cards. Currently, I am happily using a Phillip's Rythmic Edge. Shame their XP drivers are a little flaky still.

*barfs* Sorry I haven't used one of their cards since the AWE32, which I must admit I actually like because it has a daughterboard port and used (then) standard RAM, instead of proprietary RAM like they did with the AWE64.
But now? Well I finally gave up on my Diamond MX300 (Aureal Vortex 2). It works under XP but is too flaky to deal with and there will be no more driver updates since Creative Scabs drove Aureal out of business. I just ordered a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz tonight. I've heard nothing but good things about this card (check out the user reviews at newegg.com for it), Turtle Beach has a good reputation, and it has a daughterboard port so I can still bring my Yamaha DB50XG midi card over. I don't know why anyone buys Creative Labs anymore. People may think ATI's rep is bad, but they have nothing on Creative Labs. Their cards cause so many problems it's not even funny. Seems every game I get has SB Live and/or Audigy problems on its list of known issues. Their support is horrible, and it's not like there's any need to fear sound incompatibility issues since Microsoft standardized everything with DirectSound. I guess they are just living off an old reputation. It's a shame, a little while back 3sound was all the rage, and their were next generation and next generation beyond that 3D sound technologies and cards coming out, 3D sound sites were popping up like weeds. It was a very exciting time for sound cards. Then Creative found some pathetic flimsy reason to sue Aureal and lost but bankrupted them, bought them out, and then sat on their superior technology instead promoting the inferior EAX. And when was the last time we've heard of a new sound card or 3D sound technology coming out? not for a looooong time. Down with Creative Labs I say! :P -MO |

I have a Fortissimo II in one of my rigs that I love, but I also have an SB-live 5.1 that has done me well in my other one. The SB-live was much more of a pain-in-the-ass to set-up though, and I like the Forty2 muchly better.

That's the thing I like about non-Creative cards, they actually work when you try to use them.

Thats whats funny, I haven't had a single problem with any sound card since my Sound Blaster 2.0 from 1989 (STILL USING IT BTW, IN AN AMD K6-2 350!!!!) Every sound card I have used since then has worked fine for me.
No complaints here. (Except the problems with the Audigy/8500DV, but its not too big.)

I moved from a Vortex2 based TurtleBeach:Montego2Quadzilla great card and still in use on my second computer Iam totally against Creative in every way. I refuse to support them I don't care how supposedly "good" there crap is. They killed my fav company took there awsome tech and didn't use it to top it off ![]() Death to Creative and there BS

I use a Philips Acoustic Edge. I think it is an excellent card. Sounds great, the Q-sound audio enhancements are great. I use it over Dolby for surround sound on my DVD setup. Pushes more sounds to the rear channels. Also has good acceleration for HW sound.

Hercules Fortissimo II here.
Previously I had an SBlive but it was hogging my PCI bus causing occasional pops&clicks. Also according to some review, the Forty II uses less CPU time.

Cool. It's nice to see that everyone is having a great time with their sound once they ditched their Creative crap.

I just dropped in a Philips Acoustic Edge... I must say this is the best sounding sound card I have ever owned... I would even go so far to say ... it sounds better than the Aureal SQ2500 that I owned previously.
Excellent sound.

Glad to hear that you are as happy with your Acoustic Edge as I am with mine Wyre. Philips is really getting their stuff together. They have out some good products. Philips and Sony do kind of control everything audio wise.

I am ... so far they seem a little more acurate, and capable than the standard drivers. There is a slight performance increase as well. |

I just ordered myself a Santra Cruz. It'll be in sometime this week and I report back my findings, and thoughts about it. I've been using Creative for awhile but I'm owned two of the Philip's cards, and an old Diamond Multimedia Aureal.
