Default Post AC3 Decode?

Hi 2 all! (being a new member and so...)

..got the Audigy Platinum few days ago (former owner of the Live! and Extigy) and I have a certain annoying 'problem'... Namely, there's a distinct lag in the decoding; am playing in WinDVD 4.0, set up on Digital output, AC3 decoding enabled in the Surround Mixer and 'defaulted' in AudioHQ... By my estimation, the lag's about 400-500ms, which is, btw., really annoying, especially in 'gun shot' scenes in the movies...
The sounds right when used with Analog Sound Card setting, but what's the point of having an AC3 decoder chip then(?)...
Drivers: 5.12.01.0244; AudioHQ: 1.10.21
Sys. Specs: iPIII@800MHz, ASUS P3V4X, 512Mb RAM, ASUS v7700 (GeForce2 GTS, 32Mb DDR), Pioneer 16xDVD, MegaWorks 510D via Audigy Platinum... (bla.. ); all of it running on XP pro..

Please, if you have any ideas, weather driver or settings related let me know...
(any links to newer drivers would be appreciated, as long as they don't cross the 100Mb threshold (ISDN))

Tx!

Check out this review, it might be of some use. I am not the guru around here, but something is better than nothing I guess. There is a small section about DVD towards the bottom.

Well, I checked out most of the reviews before I actually bought the Extigy, but I guess that practical use of it shows it to be a bad investment... I freaked out most of the time while trying to get a simple four speaker output on it - failed
Eh, learned a good leason and returned to the 'internal realm'...

btw. thanx for the link, but it didn't help; sorry...

Notice: that 'lag' doesn't seem to be present when I turn off Video Hardware Acceleration in WinDVD 4, as well in PowerDVD 4 (XP); but the picture's way crappier (duhh)...

Hope there's a wise soul out there who might have an answer...

Okay this is a big shot in the dark...try turning down the acceleration for the Extigy one notch.

I don't know if I was clear on me actually using Audigy Platinum...
Hmm, I could try to turn down the acceleration, but what's it got to do with AC-3 decoding (if we're thinking 'bout the same thing - DXDiag, HW Acc. sliders...)(?)

Sorry, if I was being rude, but the thing is really starting to piss me off...

y'know, you could just use WinDVD/PowerDVD for dolby decoding.... I know that's not what you wanted to hear because you don't get the hardware acceleration and full use of your Audigy, but at least it won't annoy you

I see you use an Audigy as well... any problems?
btw. do you use HW or SW decoding method?
I don't know weather I should do some tweaking based on this issue, but I just don't what I should tweak..

Thanx, anyway...

I have an audigy and I use hardware decoding. I haven't ever actually had any problems in getting the Audigy to function properly. I did once have a problem in which new driver installations were causing BSODs, but that was fixed with a reformat and it hasn't ever happened since .

..I'm still DL-ing that Compaq release, can't wait to see if that'll resolve some issues...
Still don't get it, though; could it have to do something with nVidia drivers?
Last thing I tried was installing WinDVD 3.0 and using it with S/PDIF output and vid. acc. enabled (which is crappy in this release, btw.) and it all seemed oK, but being a so called perfectionist in certain things, I just can't settle on it...
Dunno, I'll keep you posted up to date...

the compaq release helped me a LOT. the drivers before that sounded somewhat duller and bland.

Two more hours worth of download and I'm ready to be amazed!

well, i don't know if you'll be "amazed", but there is a noticeable difference. The fact that the difference was actually noticeable was what amazed me ..... i mean, the sound won't blow your socks off or anything

I'm with you Dallas when I installed the Compaq drivers I was very impressed with the sound and the "personality" of the card. To me it did seem to sound brighter; just simply ran better.

Yawzaáa...
The drivers are great, I've notice a great change in audio processing; hmmm, seems like my woof's working A LOT better now

Still, there's a problem with AC-3 decoding, but the lag seems to be 'shorter/smaller'...
