Default Post Static sound from sblive 5.1 gamer after clean install of XP

Im hoping I can get a quicker response then waiting for creative. When windows starts up the sound is fine...then two minutes into windows the sound is overcome with a static noise. IMs, MP3s and title music for games are plagued with it. In game though it seems to disappear, but occasionally shows up. I also cant update the drivers. The drivers are still from 11/2001. I tried updating with the new sblive drivers and theyre still not upgraging. I think this may help in the static I get. How would one go about trying to reinstall but not letting windows use its generic drivers. Instead have it ask for drivers and putting the new sblive drivers in. I know this can be done with video cards. Please help, this noise is very annoying.

have you tried the new compaq drivers for it? Dallasstar had some links around here somewhere for them..... Or Necrosis just posted a sticky at the top of the forum for the complete 630MB cd image.

to go along with that heres a few handy tips compliments of Necrosis:
"1. Perform a COMPLETE uninstall. This includes:
a. Uninstall the software from add/remove programs
b. Go to the CD (the original or the new one seems to work) and run the
CTZAPXX.exe file, and select uninstall.
c. Clear out the registry entries and the program files\creative directories

Reboot.

Cancel any "found new hardware" wizards that come up

Run setup from the new CD. If you select the custom install option, you can
pick and choose what apps to install, or just the drivers if you are so
inclined. I recommend at least AudioHQ and the surround mixer with the
drivers for full functionality."

option #2 if that doesn't work is trying the VIA latency patch if you have a VIA chipset mobo. You can find two versions of that (0.19 and 0.20 beta) along with FAQ here

First of all, I recommend you mute your "Line-in" and "Microphone" volumes through volume control or Surround Mixer. If that doesn't work, then make sure you have the latest drivers from the sticky on this forum. If you want something smaller than 650mb, here is a 377mb version:

ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/softpaq/sp2...00/SP20920.exe

One more thing that you should make sure to do is to keep your volume (through volume control) under 70% and raise and lower your volume through your speakers whenever possible.

Also, if you have a motherboard with a VIA chipset, go download the Via Latency Patch:

I was playing around after readin the replies and find that if I click and hold a window and drag it around, actually shaking it around while an mp3 is playing the static goes away. does this shed any light on anthing. Also i tried the newest drivers from creative, just released on the 17th, go through the install process, but windows still shows 11/2001 drivers. i dont understand. Plus i dont have a cd with xp drivers on it. And when i do uninstall it windows will find it and put its generic drivers back in again.

1. Definitely sounds like a latency problem.

2. Make sure it's not sharing IRQ's!!!

3. It seems awfully weird whenever there is any graphic acceleration of any type your problem "goes" away.
