Your PC Speaker setup
What speakers are you guys using for your PC setup? give as much detail as possible and if you think you made a good purchase. You can also name your dream setup as well !

I've got an Audigy 2 Platinum hooked up to creative inspire 6700 6.1 surround. Sounds great now that I finally got the speakers setup round the room properly. Its only taken me 13 months to get round to it.
Goes really loud if I wan't to but the neighbours would complain. Don't really have a dream setup apart from a nice hi-fi 6.1 amp and much better floor standing front speakers - satelites just don't sound as good as proper hi-fi. |

I've one for the first 7.1 Sound cards available.. the Digifire 7.1 from Hercules... pretty powerfull sporting 3 firewire ports... (2 outside and one internal)... along with fiber optics in and out.... digital out... and the full 8 channel out..
It has 2 4 channel chips on it... 16 bit playback @ 48000khz.... and most amazingly... this thing is most excellent for hooking up multiple speakers systems.... (home or huge/large rooms for dances).... fully adjustable... and actually created with musians in mind.... (i could buy a front dock like the Creative platiums have) price? $129 canadian.... vs creatives $350+ that they had going at the time Speakers.. used to have a pretty good Creative 5.1 5300.... it quit... took it back... and they replaced it with this crappy Altec Lansing 251 speaker set..... this thing distorts WAY to easily... and it isn't just my machine... i've got 3.... all on different systems.. including creative... and there just... terrible... I'm pushing for either the gigaworks.. or a full blown aplifire....and speaker set... it'll cost me $1000 to get though....

I built my dream setup.
4x polk audio studio monitors 2x DA-800s 1x yamaha 14 band EQ 1x TEAC (I never heard of them either) 20 band EQ 1x pioneer 550 watt amp 1x harmon/kardon 250 watt amp 1x yamaha natural sound 250 watt amp 1x pair of beyer stuido headphones 1x pair of unknown brand studio headphones. 1x audiigy 2 ZS (I was never impressed with a soundcard untill now, this thing has the most incredibly clear sound, its far beyond a audigy 2 or a soundstorm) The only thing I could imagine to upgrade it is some 30 band EQs. |

I've been running the Logitech Z680s for quite some time now and I'm very impressed. Too damn loud at times but worth the money IMO. Also the built in decoders and easy access headphone jack were a big seller for me. I have no need for anything better at the moment

I have my audigy 2 hooked up to creative cambridge soundworks DT3500 Digital 5.1 with external decoder. Worth every euro i spent, The only problem is that i can never put them to the max cos the whole building starts to shake
My next step would be a 7.1 setup but i haven't seen anyone decent or expensive enough for me

2.1 with surprisingly high quality satellites for being PC speakers. Same satellite build as in their expensive 5.1 THX package by the way. The sub is huge and has a lot more capacity than I could ever need, so I run with the sub level knob turned almost to the bottom. The aluminium cone in the satellites perform as advertised and manages to put out both a rich midrange and accentuated treble. Just as I read in some review the treble might just be a little too strong (for lack of a better word), but a little equalizing takes care of it. I'm also sensitive to high tones in general so it might just be me. Soundcard is an old SB-Live. Thanks to the alternative kX-Project drivers I get better sound quality by switching the front and back outputs, since Creative for some reason designed this card with lower quality front speaker output. The kX-Project drivers are also excellent at downmixing 5.1 sound contents (movies, some games) to these effectively stereo speakers. I'm really amazed by the resulting improvement to a five years old soundcard. When looking for a new set of speakers I was mostly thinking about getting some budgetline 5.1 or 7.1 package, but in the end I thought I would bet on a package with fewer speakers with the best possible quality instead. For the sum of money I had to spend I'm really happy with the choice I made. And I've gotten picky with MP3 quality too.

Current I have the Altec Lansing 251 5.1's. They work excellent but the only thing I wish is that they had a bigger sub. The 5 1/4 sub isn't big enough but it does darn well for it's size. Plus for the price I paid for them ($60 from Newegg) I couldn't go wrong. I have an older set of Altec Lansings at home (can't remember the model #) but they have a nice 12" sub that rumbles my desk..heheh..
Dream My dream set-up is to put my PC back up stairs and hook it back in to my home theater system (1000 watts!!). That is where you really felt like you were in the race car or really felt like you were on the front line of the war.... BUT the wife wants the PC in the basement so that is where it will stay....

Currently I am running the Logitech Z-640's. Great crisp sounding speakers with excellent bass down low. I am running them with the Nforce 3 onboard sound ATM and am pleased really. To me they sound much more expensive than they were.
I would like to have a Audigy 2 ZS and the Z 680 speakers for my dream system.

nothing fancy for me, just Klipsch Promedia 2.1, and they are just great!! Dunno if they're worth the money ($180 I think was the MSRP), but I got em for free so I'm happy
![]() No room for a surround system in my bedroom, so no point in having 4.1, 5.1 etc Better for me to have a 2.1 that simply sounds outstanding, which these do. As for dream system... I dunno... ![]() my uncle has a pretty nice system for his living room... Harman/Kardon amp Klipsch Reference speakers (not sure on the specifics) and it sounds awesome! I'd probably model it after something like that

I'm using the Altec Lancing 5.1's. I love them. there is nothing I dont like about them.
The best thin about them is they are deadly looking. They grab alot of attention. The base is not the greatest but I live in a condo so thats probally a good thing.

I have Creative Audigy 2 and Inspire 6700s. They are both very good... apart from the darn crackling every now and again!!!
My dream speakers would be the Logitech Z-680s - the ones that cost £250... I will be getting them in a few months time. |

Cheap done well
Onboard VIA chipset stereo audio output to a JVC RX-222 receiver (had it around...) with an Aiwa single well cassette deck attached. Receiver is driving two Acculab 4-ways (15in. woofer, 4in. mid, 2in. cone and a small horn splitting tweeter duties) sitting on the floor on either side of the compact computer table.

Creative Audigy Platinum with Klipsch ProMedia 5.1 Ultra. Couldn't be happier...
My original ProMedia's died about 6 months after the warranty expired. Klipsch was cool enough to send me a brand new set of 5.1 Ultra's (much improved over my original set) at no additional charge and included a new 2 year warranty as a bonus. Klipsch seems to have taken a bad situation and converted me into a customer for life. Can't say enough good things about their customer service (and the system simply ROCKS!). http://www.gamersdepot.com/hardware/..._ultra/001.htm Last edited by SkyBum; Feb 23, 2004 at 04:43 AM. |

Just been listening to some high bit-rate MP3-Pro files. I had to keep stopping what I was typing to listen. I now have the speakers positioned correctly and they sound amazing for little satelites. The stereo imaging is suberb and the DVD-Audio disk I got with the Audigy just sounds out of this world.

Logitech Z-540's (4.1 speaker setup 400W total power) on a SoundStorm (on NF7-S).
My dream setup would be a Klipsch 7.1 Setup of like 600W or something lol, I dont think they make em but it would be nice, or Creative MegaWorks.

I have Audigy2 with Creative Inspire 5.1 5300.
they are currently set up in my spare box room of my house which is around 6ft by 10ft with the speakers set upon the wall at ear level when sitting down. right in front is my canter just above my crt with the two front channels at either side and the 2 rear channels set slightly behind me.the sub is sitting on the floor behind my pc so the bass gets maximum effect on the floor and bounces of the wall. I have just installed and tuned the Creative Inspire T7700 set and is very happy with it. I've seen reports that the T7700 have been a bit bashed because of poor bass and overall sound loudness which makes me believe that those reviewers are absolutely or close to stone deaf! My neighbours are gonna kill me soon.
![]() I had the Inspire 5100 before. The soundscape is not that revolutionary different between 7.1 and 5.1 but the sound is much louder and better with the T7700. I'm soon gonna get banned for either being a Creative fanboi or spammer... So... I better walk out now. ![]() // Rico |
