2 Sound Cards and MD problem

Whenever I record music onto my MD, I would need to unplug my speakers and plug in the digital line connecting to my MD. Furthermore, I would be limited to what I could do on my computer since any outputted sound is recorded on the MD.

I have an audigy sound card and an onboard sound card. I was wondering if I could plug my digital line into the onboard sound card and whenever I record, I could redirect the sound into my MD instead of through the audigy card while still use windows to play games, browse, etc. without affecting the music being recorded onto the MD.
