Audigy 2 driver problems + vxd/wdm question
Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone had any problems with the EAX4 Update from creative, as it borks "Advanced HD" presets.. everything works, all other presets, EXCEPT the "Advanced HD" ones. They just mute the soundcard, instead of doing anything. "Repairing" from the uninstall screen fixes the problem.. re-applying the update borks the presets again. This is annoying. I gotta chose between EAX4 and my presets.... Also, what's the deal with VXD/WDM drivers? How do I change between them (I don't see 'Driver Utility' anywhere), and, which one is better? I heard the VXD was better for games (stability-wise), but the cd installs the WDM one.. edit: I'm using Windows XP SP1 cheers, hell Last edited by mr.hell; Feb 27, 2004 at 01:32 AM. |

Mr. Hell,
I had thought the Advanced EQ problem I had was because I had installed the 441's on my Live 5.1. I guess this is a bug. There is a workaround. Open AudioHQ. In the options tab check to show the icon on the taskbar and to load at startup. This is to get handy access to the EAX control, which you'll need to open to get sound for the Advanced EQ presets each time you want to set one. In the EAX control panel, click the top dropdown's EQ tab. Then select a preset of choice from the other dropdown. Scroll down with the scroll bar to the bottom selection which says "Parametric." Click that. Then, on the volume slider on the bottom just click on the little slider arrow. You don't need to move it, just click on it. Amazingly, this will result in sound! Anytime you want to change the preset you must come here, change the selection, scroll down and click Parametric, and click the volume control button. To get back to normal, go up and choose ENV from the dropdown menu, and select No Effects from the other dropdown. That's it. I went back to the older 252 driver since it's the last one optimized for the Live series, but with an Audigy 1 Or 2, I'd probably use either the 383's (if I couldn't stand the inconveniance), or the 441's (and hope for a future update). I noticed that the 441's did have a very different sound than all previous drivers. I attributed it to perhaps Creative using CMSS by default. Mid's and high's had an airy, open effect to them which I thought at first was a driver improvement. I got sick of listening to it and went back to prior drivers. Toggling CMSS in PlayCenter turned CMSS 1 on and off, but it might have CMSS 2 on by default with no access to turn off in the software that works with the Live (no EAX Console, Media Source). |
