Default Post Philips Acoustic Edge Shot???

Having some probs with my AE, think it may be due to a thunder storm but I'll seek some other opinions before I get another card. Went out to the store yesterday and while out a nasty thunder storm passed through which caused a power outage in the area. Normally I unplug the computer when I go out for this very problem, but I was a bit lazy on this day and no storms were expected . Got back and when power came back on I turned on the computer. Did not really notice if the sound was working or not as I had the volume turned down on the Z560's. Later that evening I fired up Divx player and noticed there was no sound whatsoever coming from the speakers. Made sure the volume was turned up, cords were plugged in to outlets and all connections were tight to sound card but still no dice. Decided to go to the AE's control panel and perform the speaker test and got the error "Unable to create DS interface". After noticing this I went to the device manager and noticed there was no listing for the AE under sound and video controllers. Decided to uninstall the current drivers and reinstall with no change. Opened up computer and tried other PCI slots/reseated got the same error. Please understand I operate under a dual boot and performed all of the above actions in both os's. I've tried everything else on the pc and it appears to work fine, so I'm unsure of how the soundcard would only be affected piece of hardware. Prehaps the hardware gods were looking upon me with favor on this day? I'm pretty sure the card is possibly shot, but a second opinion is needed by the wifey before I spend the bucks for a replacement. Thanks for the input.

What OS's are you dual booting under? If you are using XP or ME (UGH) try doing a system restore before the storm. It does sound like the card is fried since it's not being seen. I would recommend you also verify your speakers work as well.

Booting under Win 98se & Win XP. Tried the speakers out on wifey's computer and they work fine. Tried the sys restore as well, just forgot to add that . I'm pretty sure it's toasted as well, kind of liked that AE . Now any soundcards you guys want to recommend?? And Necrosis how is that Hercules 6.1 soundcard? Any problems you've noticed? How is Win XP drivers? Thanks again.

The Game Theater has been great so far. I haven't had any problems with it. However, under Hercule's forum there has been a number of people that have had problems. I don't know if I can recommend it or not. It sounds great, and I love the break out box. If you don't need the connections I would have to say give TB a try. Great XP support and Win98 support. It's the little soud card that could!

I looked at the forum shortly after posting my last message. Seems there is a reboot problem in some systems when loading the newest Win XP drivers and several unresolved issues. How is Hercules on releasing drivers? I used to have a Geforce ddr-dvi and they released drivers very often but from the looks of that forum I wonder about the 6.1.

I honestly don't know. I'm using the 4.10's and I think they've been out since April or May. There is supposed to be some great driver release sometime soon. I know Hercules is also releasing a 7.1 version of this card soon as well.

7.1 ! I really like the outputs that the 6.1 offers, I especially need the rca analog right and left out to an external amp as I sometimes use it with a HX Pro Logic amp I have. Other then the Audigy I think the 6.1 is the only consumer based sound card that still has a line out. Could be wrong on this, gotta do some catch up reading on some of the cards. I've heard good things about the Turtle Beach, gonna take a look at that tommorow. Thanks for your help and input.
