Which audio board for a DTT 5.1 digital system
Hello,
I currently have a DTT 2500 digital kit with 5 spearkers + a subwoofer and I'm using the soundmax chipset integrated into my P4P800 motheboard. The sound is good but not amazing and I don't have A3D 2 and Vortex features. Which audio card should i get to get a better sound with my audio system ? I don't have that much money to spend on it so don't say to me "buy an audigy 2z @ 125€" :P (I can afford one for 50-75euros). I also heard they were many ways to tweak an audio card so it become nearly as good as very expensive cards. Can you help me a bit ? |

Either that what Judas suggested or M-Audio Revolution 7.1 or TerraTec Aureon 7.1 Space (both based on the same chip Envy24HT, and support A3D1/2 and EAX1/2 via Sensaura), if you can find them at reasonable price.

Thx for your advice but wouldn't I get better performance simply with an audigy with tweaked drivers (like the YouP-PAX for SB-Live cards) ? Does the hercules digifire 7.1digital Ex have vortex a3d 2 & new eax features ? Does the audigy have them too ? WHich of these two cards is the best ? (I can get hercules digifire 7.1digital Ex or Audigy LS in my local shop) ?

the digifire is probably WAY to much for what your looking for... try looking for the fortissimo 3.... they hare nearly half the price..... The hercules cards support the latest everything except the EAX 3/4 versions which are still a little rare in games..... Reason i suggest this card is that i wouldn't purchase a creative card at all yet.... not till they get there problems sorted.... and bring out a truely 24bit.... completely supported board...

Hercules Fortissimo III 7.1 Sounds GREAT, it's cheap, the drivers always work, and it's versatile. I would get one if you can- I have never been disappointed with mine. If you want EAX 4, HD etc...(or whatever new Creative ONLY crap they come up with), get an Audigy2 or something-
but I'd buy a Fort III first to see what you think, you might like it and save yourself a bunch of cash like I did.

the new EAX stuff i've pumped up using an audigy..... i said... meh... doesn't really do much enless you willing to spend a pretty penny on a full blown 7.1 system that can really push some clean wattages... also.. it's not viable in games yet ... few have it....
