Default Post Crackly Sound

Hey all,

Here's something really, really weird. I've recently upgraded to windows xp and while playing winamp or anything, the sounds are really crackly. And the worst crackly sounds come when expanding menus. Sooo strange. I've tried removing/changing video drivers, sound drivers and nothing works. I know the sound card works fine. Should I just try buying a new one? Motherboard has latest bios. (Speakers are fine).

PC specs:
AMD athlon xp 1600
ASUS A7V266
Powercolor SNiper2 (nVidia TNT2 M64 based card)
Creative Sound blaster pci 64.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hmmm, the thing with the menus could be related to visual settings, try turning off transition effects...
...also, try disabling ACPI, see if that helps...
I probably need more info, though

As 4 buying a new one, well, you could always get a Live!...

Download this latency patch (for via chipsets) : http://download.viahardware.com/vlatency_v019.zip .....install it etc and your problems *should* magically disappear

I've witnessed some major system overall slowdown with that latency patch, but could also just be native to my configuration... eh...

Anyway, hope the patch helped...

There's supposed to be a newer version of the patch that actually speeds up overall system performance, but it is unstable. Just wait till the official release of that (of course, I can't say for sure since I have never used via )

Nah, why wait when I don't need it (am not experiencing any problems)?

...but it's good to bear that in mind!

Well, FYI, I'm not running any patches on my system *knocking on wood* and everything's working fine...

Yeah, I never really understood why anyone would buy products that most usually need a third party patch to fix its problems.
