Ok. I bought a SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS card the other day to replace my old SB Live 5.1 card. I reformatted windows just to make sure I could get a clean install. I install the drivers off the CD that comes with the card. Now I am getting a freezing issue, if I leave my computer on for a while without me using it then it will freeze up sometimes with a slight whining sound. It has also frozen up when I am using it, but not as much as when its idle.
Specs: AMD Athlon XP 2800+ Epox EP-8RDA nForce2 Motherboard with 3.13 nforce drivers ATI Radeon 9700 Pro with 3.10 Omegas 2x IBM 60 GB 7200 RPM hd's 1 GB PC2700 DDR SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS |

Yeah, I disabled the AC97 Audio in the BIOS. Is this what you mean?

Yes that is what i mean....try uninstalling the drivers...and download the lastest ones from creative site...as the ones on the cd may not be the latest....

ok.... check your IRQ settings.... if your creative card is sharing with any other device.. you might be looking at the "creative" conflict.. (even though the device SHOULD work together..... they don't)... try downloading the latest drivers off the net... see if you have any bios updates for your motherboard....

ok I got the newest drivers installed from creative. How do I make sure that the Card is on its own IRQ number? The bios I have is the most updated to my knowledge ( Award 6.00 ).

yeh on some motherboars the bottom slot and the top slot (1 & 5) are hardwired to use the same IRQ - ie if you change the IRQ for one, you change it for the other as well

My configuration was: soundcard on very bottom slot, and network adapter in the slot above it, thats all that i have running on pci. I just moved the soundcard above the network card and it works
