it should not. you may just check if there are 3 CMSS-modes. (third will be stereo upmix or similar). if u got that the mod was successful

ok - btw the original CMSS (on a Live!) was stereo upmix - did they remove that on later models and then re-add it?

hm i think i've mixed it up... but modded successful there will be 3 options instead of 1 or 2. i'm not using creative's driver, but www.kXproject.com so i dont really remember the correct name of the third option. mabye it was sth else.
device manager will tell u audigy 1/2 or audigy series but not ZS if its just a modded one.

Please help - Weak Bass problem with Audigy 2

Hi all,

I've recently come across a strange problem with weak bass when the ZS drivers are installed with an Audigy 2. The first time I installed the drivers was with a new XP install and although the bass was fine, a crackling/static sound would sometimes be heard when I opened programs while playing music (MP3). I decided this could be down to a bad install so I uninstalled them (using my bro's ZS cd extracted to a folder (patched), then uninstalled mediasource from add/remove, then did a driver cleaner for Creative audio, then removing any Creative folders from my system, even removed any instances of 'Creative' and 'Audigy' from registry ).

Now, the crackling has gone but the level of bass is much lower and I have no idea why. I tried my onboard sound and the bass returned as normal. Also, tried my bro's ZS and the bass problem was still there - so this this has to be a driver issue somewhere. I changed the pci slot too with no luck.

Another thing I wanted to try was to install the original Audigy 2 drivers that came with my card to see if the problem remained but it says that it can't find an Audigy 2 card on my system - the same message it would give if I tried to install the ZS drivers without patching them first. Also tried different media players.

I've tried reinstalling the drivers a number of times with the bass problem remaining.

ANY help on what the problem could be would be fantastic as I'm now totally out of ideas . I don't wanna use the onboard sound, although it sounds good the ZS drivers seem to provide more detail.

Cheers.

The drivers and software I installled are listed below:

Installed drivers:
- Original from ZS CD - Patched

- Sound Blaster Audigy 2 and Audigy 2 ZS Driver Update - 'EAX4DRV_AUDIGY2_1_84_50' (29 July 2004) - not patched

Software Installed:
- Creative THX Setup Console Update (Version 1.00.16) for Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS (16 Jan 2004) - not patched

- Creative MediaSource 2 Update (Version 2.02.06) for Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS (16 Jan 2004) - not patched

- Creative EAX Console Update (Version 2.02.05) for Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS (16 Jan 04) - not patched

System specs:
CPU: AMD 2500 mobile
MOBO: Asus A7N8X DLX rev 2 (tried with nForce 4.27 and 5.10 drivers)
RAM: 512 MB pc3500
HDD: Using SATA HDD (tried with SiliconImage 1.0.0.20 and 1.0.0.50 drivers)
OS: Win XP Pro (SP1 with all Win Updates)

the problem with kX is that they dont really support games...the sound quality in games goes down the toilet and that is a BIG problem for me. its exactly why I do not use kX drivers anymore.

@inert try drivers from www.kXproject.com
i dont like bass redirect and bass by the creative driver at all. with kX it just rocks!
just set up 5.1 with bass redirect in the surroundmixer. front and back channels will be switched by default. just disable this option or change the cabels if you gonna use kX later

i cant tell a difference between Kx 3d sound and Creative 3d sound. Admittedly that may be because i have a Live! 5.1 card but EAX makes a huge difference for me in a few games.

exclamation

I downloaded the Audigy 2 ZS software package as listed on the front page of this thread. When I try to install it after using the Compatibility Patch, the installer says that the "Sound Blaster could not be found". I have tried installing the original drivers for my SBlive 5.1 card and the same thing happens. Any help would be much appreciated.

Ok, think I have an idea why it's doing this. MediaSource isn't installing properly, when I go to install it from from the cd files it goes from 5 to 9% then ends. Also, it's not listed in add/remove afterwards.

Is there a way to uninstall MediaSource from the registry so that it reinstalls properly???

Thanks

It's a 5.1 setup. Just having a real problem installing Media Source now Eaxcon doesn't wanna work.

May give the kx drivers a try, in terms of quality, how do the kx drivers compare with the patched ZS?

Thanks.

So, just bought a used very cheap audigy 1394 and installed all the drivers and run all the patches listed on the first page and suggested in this thread (incl. pfmod.dll replacement). Now, everything seems to work fine, I can use the THX console, the equalizer, the mixer, no problem and the sound is just great. BUT

When I want to play a game or watch a movie my machine frezzes while the sound repeats itself horrible, can't do anything but pushing the reset button. I never got this problem before using the soundstorm onboard chip. The moment of the freeze is alyways somwhere else...

I first thought it was the graphics driver. Updated them but the problem is still there.

Maybe someone else made the same experience?

btw: another little problem i have is in battlefield:vietnam. Sound in the menu is ok, ingame sound is too silent, like a background whisper...hmm.

btw, my rig:

AMD XP-M 2600+
DFI Lanparty NFII Ultra b
Sapphire 9800 Pro 128 MB
Audigy1 1394 @ 2ZS
Samsung Spinpoint SP1614N

attempts....rather than forking over $12 to the slime
at Creative for a replacement CD I got a working
image of the Audigy 2 install CD from thread at:

http://www.tech-pc.co.uk/audigy-2.php

worked on my audigy 1.

I downloaded and installed that version from that site, and I do believe it only contains standard Audigy 2 software, not ZS software. The Graphic EQ application isn't contained in that version.

Did you guys ever get around to making a torrent file for the Audigy ZS ISO? Every link I find is either dead, or not accessable...

Hi all,

after having installed the Audigy 2 drivers on my Audigy 1 (with succes),

i kinda' wanted to try the Audigy 2ZS ones too

but first off let me start by saying Thank You to Solid Snake for this great guide

ok....back on topic...

i'm downloading the ISO right now from the 1st of 2 links offered & am astonished that i get such a low speed

is it possible the speed on that server has been capped??

it just sounds so weird because some members were able to download @ higher speeds from that same link

i'm on a 3.3MB Adsl line & don't have any speed problems whatsoever...

can someone plz point me to a faster link for the Audigy 2ZS installation CD??

or just try & find out what the problem is with the speed of the 1st link???

i really am not looking forward to wait 28 days before i get this CD...

a big thx in advance

Have you tried looking on any of the P2P networks? I think I got my Audigy 2 ZS cd off of the e-donkey network I believe.

EEK! question about LIVE-NewYear

Hi all,
I am a newbie in this. I downloaded the LIVE- newyear.zip package and I try to install this on my Sblive 5.1. The only thing that is happened is that I can’t use the 5.1 option because after installation it doesn’t appear anymore. For what cards are those drivers from this package LIVE- newyear.zip?! What driver can I install for my sb card?
I pach the data1.cab and also I edited manually the ctcomp.dat and when I try to install the drivers it say to my “no Audigy 2ZS card detected”.
Please tell me what driver I must instal for SBLive 5.1 ? I download the LIVE- newyear.zip for nothing?

You need to choose SBLive! option while you install LIVE-newyear.zip. Perhaps you chose Audigy or Audigy2 option. now you uninstall this driver and all software, then install LIVE-newyear.zip again.

Anyone managed to find any current links for the ZS cd files? The only one I can get working is the ISO image linked on the first page, but that one is so slow it'll take about a month on my high-speed connection to download. Internet searches and P2P networks have produced nothing either.

Nah, that's the same place the ISO is hosted at, and it's ridiculously slow.

I have got to say that Solid Snake and all you folk here have done an Outstanding job!!!!!!!

It's great how you all make it possible for us to use newer or different model product software on our older or different model hardware!

I have the Audigy 2 ZS software running on my system which has an Audigy. This thing you all are doing here is truely fantastic. I'm really glad I know of DriverHeaven.

Thank you all for making this possible!

Naw, DJ, I had to try this out cause it sounded so impressive! I did and it worked, but I'm back on KX now.

I used to always switch between the Creative (for gaming) and KX Drivers, havnt done that for a while. Anyway I'm content with KX and I think they're best for music production with my Creative card.

I mean what I say, though. They have done a fantastic job!!!!! It's just that for music production, KX is the best for any supported Creative card, IMHO. Let me restate that. KX is the best for my version of the Audigy sound card.
