Guide: How to install SoundBlaster Audigy 2ZS drivers on Live!/Audigy/Audigy 2

audigy 1/audigy 2/audigy 2zs really do need high end speakers to feel the difference, and 5.1 minimum. if your planning on staying on 2.1 and don't care for sound go for a live for nforce. i hate nforce, judas tells me digifire is great and m-audio revolution is good also i heard, but that's more for audiophilers. for dvds and games audigy 2 takes it hands down.

I have Audigy 1.

Is there purpose to update applications (will I be able to use with Audigy 1)?

If yes - should they also be installed in specific order?

Are these drivers any better than kX-projects drivers? (link)

Are there any difference in sound-quality?

The kX has a nice function where one can routh the stereo-channels to the rear speakers directly (can't with org. Audigy2 drivers)

And different EQ on each channel....

well kX is different driver and i heard is better for music makers and all that. but if your a gamer/music/dvd watcher creative drivers are best i would say

and answer to skabais, i already mentioned it works on audigy 1, just follow the directions in the guide on how to mod each download driver update. eax/thx console install no problem

I got it allright about instructions, but they specifically adresses just drivers - there isnt mentioned application updates (it just mentions that CTCOMP patch must not be applied to application updates)

Working great on my Audigy 1 Platinum Pro. A huge improvement over the older drivers. Really like the EQ.

I have an Audigy LS card...

I followed the guide up to step 4 where you run start.exe and it tells me that the audigy 2 is not detected and then quits.
I ran the ctcompt (7.1.0) for the setup/audio dir. it patched it just fine.

then step 4 craps out on me.

i did uninstall all SB related software and drivers. rebooted and started all of this and still
the start.exe tells me there is no audigy2 card.

am i hosed since i have a LS card???

i thing i do need to mention is that the 4 rar files wouldnt download after 14 hours so i downloaded
the iso that someone posted on this topic.
could that be the problem?

i assume that the iso is basically the same as the 4 rar files, just in a different form.

anyone w/ the same problem where start.exe says "audigy 2 not detected"???

Remarkable, this (4-pack)driver actually regonizes my Audigy. Now I can install the driver officially through the setup instead of CTZAPXX.exe.

The normal Audigy2 driver CD (after patching it with ctcomp.exe) and even the Audigy 5.12.01.244 driver CD strangely never would regonize my Audigy, only the (old) official CD that came with my card did.

Excellent guide, guys.
This worked very well on my ageing SBLive Platinum. Hard to believe a near 7 year old piece of hardware can run on today's drivers, and today's modern games

This must be THE most value for money piece of hardware I've ever had.

I don't know if these are an improvement on the YouP-PAX drivers, but everything's good so far.

One thing to note to older users of the Audigy and SBLive cards
If you get lots of popping, crackling, or strange warping sounds in WinXP, try this.

Go to this key

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Creative Tech\Emu10kx\DriverSettings\Wave\Pin#00000002]

And change the

"Turbo" = 1

to

"Turbo" = 0

This solved some dreadful popping and crackling sounds I was getting in many DX games, and especially Farcry.

so far so good... but am havin stupid probs with my xp version not wanting to boot into safe made....go figure... works fine otherwise....mmmmm

Anyways, after deleting the trojan, I installed and updated fine.... however, eq is still not there since patch didn't work in my own version of safe mode...where I tried to stop any additional resources/processess
alas, the patch was close, but no go...any further suggestions would be appreciated.

Also, should I update the rest of the software with the zs versions or the original 2's????

I don't know if I keep getting bad downloads or what. When trying to apply the patch to the folder with all the files extracted to it , it says cant find " data1.hdr ". 3 of the rar files are 95.3mb and the other is 89.9mb. Can somebody please tell me what the problem might be ?

Use the last version of winrar to extract the files and check there isn't any crc errors.

You should have all files OK so point the ctcomp.exe to \\Audio\Setup and patch it.

If u still get errors about data1.hdr missing pick this file and place it in \\Audio\Setup folder.

Run ctcomp again and everything should be OK...
