3. To completely uninstall and remove the Creative drivers try
the Driver Cleaner. Link to it can be found on the main page of this site

4. Searchng in Google gives this information about CTHelper:

Process File: cthelper or cthelper.exe
Process Name: Plug-in manager
Description: Background task that works as a plug-in manager for Creative drivers. It helps the third party manufacturers to produce drivers, add-on features, and fixes that will integrate with a tighter fit with Creative sound drivers and utilities.
Company: Creative Technology Ltd
System Process: No
Security Risk ( Virus/Trojan/Worm/Adware/Spyware ): No
Common Errors: N/A

Many other interesting things about this annoying process can be found in Google! For example, some peoples claims that all works fine when this process is disabled in msconfig. I never have troubles with this process.

Whoa, that was quicker than I expected. Thanks for all the info. I did read through the entire thing and it took a while but I ended up not understanding most of it. Too many different people asking questions and I couldn't keep track. So anyway, installing JUST the drivers won't give me any difference in quality?

The main hardware drivers for A2ZS and A2 are the same
and can be found on the Creative web site:

the main driver package: SBA2_EAX4DRV_031031.exe
and the update to the
main driver package: SBA2_WEBUP_PCWDRV_1-84-40.exe

I've found that during A2ZS drivers installation some files in Windows\system32 directory updated incorrectly due to the invalid Windows SFC system (it replaces them with the old versions from driver.cab and dllcache). This files are A3D.DLL and SFMAN32.DLL.
To solve this simple unpack the SBA2_WEBUP_PCWDRV_1-84-40.exe, get this files and copy them
to this directories (order is important!)

Windows\Driver Cache\i386
Windows\system32\dllcache
Windows\system32\

After copying files to the last directory and after installing drivers from the original A2ZS CD some warnings will appear in the Windows event viewer about replacing this files, simple ignore them.

This bug is with sfcfiles.dll and was described in the MS KB article as i found later! The solve on MS is was to contact support to get newer version of the file or wait until the SP2 out

But this bug was solved only with sfman32.dll but not a3d.dll !!!

The way to eliminate some of this warnings (without turning SFC off or purging dllcache) is to replace (before copying files) the sfcfiles.dll file located in Windows\system32\dllcache and Windows\system32\ directories with the newer version from SP2 RC1 (in which this bug was solved!).
Another part of warnings can be eliminated with copying A3D.DLL and SFMAN32.DLL to the
audio\drivers\wdm\common folder of the original a2zs drivers folder.

All file replaces is doing better under ther safe mode or another copy of Windows XP.

I've doing all this and i don't get any warnings in Windows event viewer about incorrect file versions or replacements and all files are updated correctly.

This can solve problems with A3D and SoundFont loading.

Another issue I've found with the A2ZS drivers and apps updates installation is the stupid errors in file replacement and updating logic.
For example, what the CTTHXCal.DLL is doing in the "windows\system32\drivers" folder and why simetimes the older version of same file
can be found in the "windows\system32\" directory ? (CTTHXCal.DLL is the THX Calibrator Engine)
This can happens if not all apps and drivers updates are installed or installed in wrong order!
I've the order in which all files are updated in right way:

1. Original Audigy2 ZS drivers (patched)
2. EAX 4.0 ADVANCED HD Driver Update
3. Creative THX Setup Console Update (Version 1.00.16)
4. Creative MediaSource 2 Update (Version 2.02.06)
5. Creative EAX Console Update (Version 2.02.05)
6. DTS Neo6 Settings (Version 1.00.06)
7. EAX 4.0 ADVANCED HD Driver Patch Update
8. Apply patch.exe, or much better and safely (if you using A2) is to unpack the patch.exe file and replace (in Safe Mode!)
only the pfmod.dll in the "Program Files\Creative\ShareDLL" folder with the patched version.

For A2 users:
Other stuff in the patch.exe is not patched and is the same version as is installed from the original
A2ZS CD and intended for the SB 5.1 (and may be A1) users but some dll's (except the pfmod.dll)
in this patch are compressed with UPX packer and that can cause memory leaks (in conjuction with
the buggy Creative dll's loader) and increased memory requirements for loading this dlls!!!).

After that all work fine! DTS:Neo6, CMS, CMSS, Graphics EQ and all other apps is working well !

SBA2_EAX4DRV_031031.exe can be installed without any previosly Creative's drivers & apss installed.
It is the full driver package.

SBA2_WEBUP_PCWDRV_1-84-40.exe is the update and requires the SBA2_EAX4DRV_031031.exe
installed first.

If you don't need any Creative Apss then you can control soundcard's features with ctpanel.exe app
in the "Progam Files\Creative\SBAudigy2\Program\Wdm\Common". Copy ctpanel.exe and CtCtrlPan.cpl
from this directory to the "windows\system32" and this app will appears in the Control Panel

Nice. Thanks Hybernaculum. I didnt realize those files were there. Do you think the other apps worth installing? When I first got my pc, it had all that stuff installed already but I couldnt take all the extra crappy software bloating my system so I reformatted and never really got a chance to see what those were about..

I have an Audigy 2 Platinum sound card and I installed mostly all creative software which is needed to realize
all features (remote control, cmss modes and presets and etc.). I have a fun to play with this
I never install the crap like getting started demo, midi samples, midi banks, NOMAD stuff, minidisk recorder (i have no minidisk player),
stream recorder (i don't listen streamed music over inet due it's poor quality).
All installed creative stuff is occupy around 150mb on my hdd and it is not so much.

I don't tryed YouP-PAX drivers. I believe that sound quality of this
drivers is better than whith originial A2 drivers, because this drivers
is based on A2ZS drivers and contains A2ZS apps which can improve
sound quality.
But what benefits of this drivers over originial A2ZS drivers (with all updates and patches) ?
Now I am happy with original A2ZS drivers and apps on my A2, all work as it should be

Just want to get something clear. The only file needed from that patch.exe for Audigy2 users is the PdMod.dll? That should get replaced before or after I finish installing all the updates? And finally will this patched PdMod.dll allow all the broken apps to work again?

Patched PdMod.dll allow all the broken apps to work again, because with nonpatched PdMod.dll many apps don't work. I've tested all Creative's apps I can found and all works very well and no any errors or glitches.

Yes, I have the normally working DTS NEO on my Audigy2 Platinum and all other apps working normally too. DTS NEO:6 is working trough CMS and it's status normally displayed in CMS. There are two modes in NEO:6 - music mode and cinema mode, all modes works properly in CMS and I hear the difference on my 5.1 sound system with large 100w subwoofer.

May be I doing something wrong?

Hybernaculum: what cd did you use, the 4 split rar files or the full iso?

the 4 rar file version is the same as the previously cracked one (FIXED_SB_Audigy2_ZS_install_modified_full) and has alot of files different from the original iso. for example, there are alot of different "setup.exe" as well as other files that were editted and upx'd in that 4 disk version. im assuming it was done by whoever previously cracked them because i doubt creative would have upx'd all those files. but i was trying to find out if all of that editting of the other files was necessary. id like to use whatever is the least cracked and uses most of the original files. and if all thats needed is the new "CTComp.dat" then why did whoever it was edit so many other things in that 4 disk version?

Not exactly sure if the drivers support the card fully or not just added the cards ID's to the installer.

Is this newer than the one in the last patch?

BTW, did you intentionally leave the sysinfo component hidden?

Quote:

WINME = 0015
WIN2K = 0015
WINXP = 0015

Edit: nevermind, I compared and they are the same. Still wondering about sysinfo tho.

I use the full copy of the original drivers CD for the 2ZS. No one byte was ripped or lost

The component was hidden by Creative so i just left it this way. Apparently in the Audigy2 ZS CD the SysInfo directory is missing but rather than remove the component out of the installer they just hide it.

Thanks, now that I know the location of SysInfo I'm going to be beta testing unhiding it from the installer if everything works as it should I will release a 7.3.0 patch with this component available as an option to install.

Yes I have now released an updated version 7.3.0 is ready to download. This version only enables the user to select or unselect "Creative SysInfo" from the list of components, previously Creative had this component hidden.

nice job, looks good but you didnt have to change the directory for that sysinfo?

I thought it would have to be changed to the LaunchApp directory but if it works fine then cool

also just curious but what do each of these actually turn off?

Registration = 0 turns off the setup program running a product registration wizard after you reboot the system.
TechSupt = 0 stops the installer from adding a link to the document found in the support directory of the cd.
SBDrvDet = 0 turns off a feature that makes the installer run a card detection program. The rest of the codes turn off the installer adding links to other products in Creative catalog.

Audio Effects don't work

Hello , I did everything how it says in the guide but I got some problems I don't know why , first when I try to enable Audio effets half of them don't work, Enviromental effects work fine , but when I try to enable any other effect I complitely lose sound, the second thing is when I'm adjusting distance from me to different speakers in the THX console my speakers make some weird creaking sound when I input then the speaker 2 m away from me, I have Audigy 2 , Windows Xp SP2 v.2126, 6.1 speakers.
