oh i see. i thought you had an audigy 2 card.

by the way, is there anyway to get a list of commands that can be used in the CTComp.dat? Maybe dvdking would know them. I just wanted to see what other commands there are and to experiment a little bit. I'm mainly interested in anything that can be used under [Installation.Settings]

I was reading on Rage3D's General Hardware forum, and there's a thread similar to this one. What I gather from it is that the Audigy 2 driver really isn't the best for the SBLive as it's not really optimized for it. There is another driver that is newer than the one on the Creative site which is specifically optimized for the Live!.

Driver:
http://www.siorai.com/stuff/SBLiveDrv.rar

Drivers Preset/Speaker Fix
http://www.siorai.com/stuff/SBLivedrvfix.rar

Rage3D thread:
http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthre...0&pagenumber=1

Also, I was told that it's not good to use Driver Cleaner to remove the Live! drivers, just remove the old driver through control panel only.

These drivers use devldr32 version 1.0.0.22 which is quite buggy. I have 1.0.0.24 and it works like a charm. Anyways It's not true that these drivers are optimised : they are very stable ( there isn't more stable drivers for the sblive) but they're based on the old vxd architecture, and are not optimised for a WDM one. So unified drivers perform better, though they're are freaking buggy (the latest one for sblive at least).

That's quite misleading. I have an old DELL CT4780 Live /Value and these are the best drivers I have used yet ! And all my software is updated also. Also when I ditched the Dell drivers and started using the 1's from Creative I lost the Wave Studio which these drivers gave me back.

Yes, I play games and listen to music.

I think someone does already. Audigy LS is not emu10kx based. So these drivers are not for it.

For me, I had lots of problems with the Audigy 2 drivers, the biggest being BSOD when exiting Far Cry, and also the mixer wouldn't work. I find that the ones I got from the Rage3D post sound better than the last official Creative drivers for the SBLive. These are much louder, the old ones I could turn everything up in the mixer, but still only get about half the volume of these newer ones. I don't know, maybe something went wrong during the install of the Audigy 2 drivers, but I will probably stick with these for now unless any other problems pop up.

higher volume doesn't always mean better - if it goes above 0.0dB you get clipping and distortion
if you want "louder" use your speaker controls

I'm mostly using headphones and the sound is louder with tighter bass with these. Max volume before wasn't very loud at all.

What model SBLive do you have ?

For me these drivers are louder and sound clearer. They also fixed the sound lag I was getting in Far Cry when shooting my gun. For the mixer I downloaded some Audigy /SBlive software I found a link for in this thread or the other I can't remember and used the mixer from them so it would match the newer software since mine originally came with the playcenter. Or you can just not install the mixer and the Windows 1 will still work when u push the mixer button using mediacenter. This is a long thread but if you want all the info to figure out how to install for the different soundcards the whole thing needs to be read.

If what you are using works and makes u happy.that's all that really matters.

It's a SBLive Value, I'm not sure of the exact model number though.

I do think I must have done something wrong when installing the Audigy 2 drivers. I think I had installed the EAX console and the other stuff you shouldn't for the Live.

With the ones I have now, I was getting the DEVLDR hang at shutdown problem, but I was able to fix it by reducing the Windows OnExit Hung App TimeOut from 20 to 5 seconds. Now the dialog never even pops up.

Also, here's something interesting from the Rage3D thread:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi guys

Sorry its been a long time and what not
I have now got an Audigy2 ZS Platinum PRO IMHO it sounds a lot crisper and clearer than the SBLive!
If anybody still uses Windows 98SE/ME I have a newer set of SBLive! drivers than the Nov2000 ones posted on the Creative site
Thanks for your support and a BIG Thanks for Blackgoat for hosing my files.
FYI Creative are releasing a whole new Driver Architecture for the Live cards... based loosely on the drivers you have been using (ones hosted by black goat).

Why?

These drivers are built ONLY for the EMU10K1 chipset and are therefore the most compatible with the SBLive and the SBLive 5.1 (including Platinum, gamer etc.)
Creative are also releasing a new driver architecture for the EMU10K2 chipset based cards (Audigy--->Audigy2 ZS) again these drivers will be optimised for the appropriate chipset adding more performance and stability

You heard it here first

"Creative are no longer writing unified architecture drivers"

Enjoy your sound
JV

???

Hello!
Nice to see this new softmod!
I used the Audigy 1 to Audigy 2 softmod until yesterday, and I wanted to change to A2ZS. I uninstalled everything, downloaded the required softwares, patched, then started to install, but the installer (from AUDIO/SETUP) said : Could not detect any Sound Blaster Audigy 2 hardware. I checked the ctcomp file, and seems be correct because I have Sound Blaster Audigy 1 with partnumber SB0090... After that I tried put bac the old Audigy 2 softwares, but It reported a same problem... How can I solve this situation?

Thanks,
KAMI

All is well here on an Audigy X-Gamer, except I can't get the Equalizer to function. I patched in safe mode, but when I try to open the EQ it says "The audio device supported by this application is not detected. The application will exit."

Humanity on an Audigy 1 you just have to complete one more step to get the full EQ working. Open the patch.exe (located on the first page of this thread) in Winzip or WinRAR then drag and drop patch.exe into that running program. Once patch.exe is open browse to the ShareDLL folder and grab the PfMod.dll file from that folder, extract to desktop or drag and drop it to desktop. Now place that PfMod.dll in your Program Files\Creative\ShareDLL folder. I'm not sure if you have to restart to see the new change or just reload the Creative System Volume tray applet might do it. It is probably a good idea to close the Creative System Volume tray applet before replacing that file anyhow.

THIS IS ONLY for Audigy 1 owners - the full EQ may not work if you went ahead and extracted ALL of the files included in patch.exe into your Program Files\Creative folder.

The installer has to be started from /CTrun/Start.exe. After you do the Creative Compatibility Patch (ctcomp.exe) step.

KAMI911,

That problem can be solved by first CTZPPPing the driver in and rebooting. Then run ctcomp on the Audio/Setup folder. Once a full driver set is installed by CTZAPP.exe, running START.exe (which just brings up the Creative Auto-run screen) or Setup.exe in the Audio\Setup folder (which runs just the software install, without the option to install MediaSource) will work. If you already have installed the 402 driver with CTZAPP, uncheck "Windows Drivers" in the selection choice screen of setup.

Since you're using the Audigy 1 (and not a Live card), do it from Start.exe like the previous poster instructed you. This way you'll get the option to install MediaSource Player as well. With the exception of installing the driver manually through CTZAPP.exe and unchecking "Windows Drivers," you can just follow the directions in the post here.

Once the install finishes, reboot and you can install the 441 web update, reboot, and install the 443 web update. These are designed for Audigy 1, 2, and 2 ZS, so you don't need to ctcomp them. With a Live card, I have to mess with extracting them, ctcomping them, running setup, rebooting, CTZAPPing them over themselves, and rebooting again for each update! (Yecch!)

If you need to uninstall the card and software in the future, run the add/remove programs on the MediaSource Player and the Audigy. Then run CTZAPP and choose to remove WDM drivers. They are not removed by the software uninstall if you installed them through CTZAPP. Then, if you're really changing cards and not just installing different drivers and software, shut down and remove the card. In either case, boot into safe mode and run Driver Cleaner. I then also run jv16powertools and uninstall CDDB Control (ensuring that deleting the Creative directory won't mess up future CDDB install's) and run jv16's registry cleaner. Then delete the Creative Directory from Program Files. Reboot into normal mode without an audio card and run Driver Cleaner and jv16 reg cleaner again. Then you can safely shut down and install a new audio card.

Not working

I did, but I think you would like to spell CTAPP

I tried but failed, no SB Audigy hw...

I tried to uninstall everything, remove Creative folder from PF.
A rebooted as many times as I can. Tried to reinstall with CTAPP.exe, but I got nothing. If I run installers separetly They run, Mixer works but EAX console can not find a compatible hardware.
Then removed everything, created a special driver installer from updates. I used the latest web pack + update combo, so I jump to the latest version at first. Installed, reboot, then ron Audio/Setup/Setup.exe. No way...
I tried play games called Colin Mc'rae Rally 04. It has EAX 4 support. I can enable EAX4 in this game. So the drivers work perfectly, but I cannot installs the apps... What do you think about : I have a different id, witch not part of patched CTComp.dat? I checked CTCOmp manually, and It updated successfully by the patch....
Quote:
Driver Cleaner
This is the part of CTAPP - when i select uninstall?

I will try i safe mode, and start from the begining. If not work I will reinstall my Windows XP.
Any better idea?

Many thanks,

Everything works great except the EAX Console...

Whenever I click on that, I get "No components are registered".

I upgraded every patch (except the mediasource2 and the neo update).

HELP!

To solve this simple unpack the SBA2_WEBUP_PCWDRV_1-84-40.exe, get this files and copy them
to this directories (order is important!)

Windows\Driver Cache\i386
Windows\system32\dllcache
Windows\system32\

After copying files to the last directory and after installing drivers from the original A2ZS CD some warnings will appear in the Windows event viewer about replacing this files, simple ignore them.

This bug is with sfcfiles.dll and was described in the MS KB article as i found later! The solve on MS is was to contact support to get newer version of the file or wait until the SP2 out

But this bug was solved only with sfman32.dll but not a3d.dll !!!

The way to eliminate some of this warnings (without turning SFC off or purging dllcache) is to replace (before copying files) the sfcfiles.dll file located in Windows\system32\dllcache and Windows\system32\ directories with the newer version from SP2 RC1 (in which this bug was solved!).
Another part of warnings can be eliminated with copying A3D.DLL and SFMAN32.DLL to the
audio\drivers\wdm\common folder of the original a2zs drivers folder.

All file replaces is doing better under ther safe mode or another copy of Windows XP.

I've doing all this and i don't get any warnings in Windows event viewer about incorrect file versions or replacements and all files are updated correctly.

This can solve problems with A3D and SoundFont loading.
Hybernaculum, is this really needed?

Where can I find sfman32.dll, a3d.dll and sfcfiles.dll?
Google?

I sow that on other posts in this thread, but I can't understand how can SBLive and Audigy 1 support it and Audigy LS not

I think Audigy LS is updated version of Emu10k1 (Live series) so why SBLive can work nad LS not?
