Surround Sound Help for a Newb (Audigy LS)

I just bought a cheap but pretty decent sounding 100 watt 5.1 home theatre system. I am trying to get it to work "properly" when hooked up to my PC.

It came with a cable that has an 3.5mm RCA jack on one end and standard (red/white) audio connectors on the other end. I can hook this up to my regular line out of my card and the surround sound works as it should, but when i run the creative surround mixer speaker test i can only hear noise from the left and right front speakers w/ the 5.1 speaker setting. I dont understand why the surround sound works, but the speaker test doesnt?

My real question though is how do you use the digital output on the soundcard? My theatre system has both optical and coaxial digital inputs. It came with a coaxial cable, but it doesnt fit into the digital out of my soundcard. My digital out looks more like a standard 3.5mm RCA jack while the digital input of the theatre system looks more like the standard (red/white) audio inputs. I would really like to try the digital out so is there some kinda standard cable or adapter i can get, or am i pretty much hosed?

Thanks

Kevin

depending on what you are listening to, ie:mp3, in game sound, windows sounds...
it will be in stero and might get the center ch.

to enable 5.1 or what i like to call "fake-me-out 5.1"
open your eax console, go to "CMSS 3D" and check off the CMSS 3D part

now play an mp3 and you will get psuedo 5.1. it works pretty well!!

I'm not sure if this will work for your card but here is an idea.

I think there is also a cable you can buy too but I don't have any links for it.
