XP Driver woes with Live! Value CT4830

Above card is working, has worked previously with Windows ME *cringe* but now it doesn't work with XP Pro. Windows detects the card, but it's not listed as an installed sound card in the audio control panel. Any attempt at installing a creative driver results in the software saying "Could not detect a creative card in your system."

I have google'd this problem many times, and get drivers that have nothing to do with the card, or just say the same thing as the creative SB Live drivers do.

My question is, does anyone have a working driver for windows XP Pro for this model card?

try running Driver Cleaner to fix this. If not you can always try the kX Project Audio Drivers

Have you tried moving it to another PCI slot?

Yes, I moved it to the last PCI slot instead of the one to the left of the video card. All this did was result in Windows detecting the card as a video controller, not an SB Live.

often PCI slots 1&5 are on the same IRQ, and creative cards don't like this… This document should help you figure out if the IRQ is the problem

Just noticed this.

Why doesn't anyone tell this guy to do the trick I suggested in a post for this problem?

dunkie,

When you get that "cannot detect" crap, just run CTZAPP.exe located in the driver folder. You have to extract the web Unipack download to get to it. After it reboots, reboot one more time. Then you can run the normal installer setup (the Unipack) and the Creative program should proceed normally. Then update to the latest applications.

There is a problem with some of the apps not installing if a prior version is not present. If you had the ole Compaq cd download, or a new Creative cd ordered from them by phone, those versions install fine, then the web updates for the aps install fine. The other alternative is installing your old install cd, then after rebooting (and closing all the software crap that loads) you install the Unipack full Sblive update, reboot, then install the updated aps. That's assuming your original cd doesn't also give you that "cannot detect" crap. There's no CTZAPP in the older drivers, so that trick isn't doable. The Uni-driver update fixes and turns old stuff off (like the buggy XP Creative Launcher). So you don't have to worry about the old stuff messing up your system because it's designed for Windows 98. Just download the updates from Creative and you'll be all set.
