drivers don't need to be updated constantly if there is no problem and no new features required… it doesn't matter if the drivers are "getting old" if they do the job perfectly there is nothing wrong.

and drivers written for other soundcards will most likely NOT work on your soundcard

You are absolutley wright but they hawent made any new drivers since early 2003 and thats quite a long time. Unfortunatly i had some problems in Max Payne 2 but ive fix that by disabeling something. What about the future support for games are they planning to update their drivers soon? I saw a newer release on win update site but they hawent worked for me. I thought i could use some newer drivers from some card that has the same chip CS4630 like my card.

My bro is running this card and I would some new drivers for him too. Its been way too long lol. There are serious problems with Kill Switch and this card. The game is unplayable. Here's hoping hercules hasn't forgotten about it

it may have the same DSP chip, but often hardware vendors will use difference ADC and DAC chips, and there for other drivers may cause issue

Yeah maybe. It's still a great card and only that one game he wants to play that has the probs. But he wants the breakout box no matter what lol. Maybe I'll get the game for him on the Xbox of he really wants it I guess. Runs fine on my A2 tho

I would like to ask something about the chip on this sound card. About a year ago i was getting my pci modem out and i was so ansceus that i didnt wait before closing my comp and i turned it on. But unfortunatly a metal plate which i was putting in at the same time, fell on the pci sound card and fried it. But fortunatly it was stil under waranty and i returned it to the wendor. I noticed that the chip on that card was CS4624 and when i got it back i saw that the rack was the same only pci card was replaced and now it had CS4630 chip on it. At first i was wery confused and i thought that they have made a mistake but when i tested it, it was playing better than ever and it is still working superb. So what is the drifference betwen these chips and if CS4630 can still produce 7.1 sound if i want to upgrade to such speaker setup in the future?

Not sure what the differences are but the 4630 is definitely the better one. It can do 7.1 no prob.

that sounds like the name of an ac-97 chip… i think manufactured by crystal

the higher the model the better sound quality ie higher SNR, lower noisefloor, distortion, crosstalk etc
